Future of MSN Explorer

This is my first post.
We are using MSN browser and have had some issues so we called Qwest. They told us that MSN was having issues with IE8 and that Microsoft was probably not going to continue to support it any longer and we should look at using our Outlook 2007 for our email.

We have already pre-ordered Windows 7 and I'm wondering what to do. Windows 7 comes with IE8 and if MSN isn't going to work with it should I change over to Outlook 2007 now? Does anyone know if MSN works with window 7 and what the future of MSN Explorer is?

I pay the 10$ a month for MSN Premium as well.

As soon as I installed windows 7 RTM I was through with it.

Have you never noticed now buggy MSN browser has always been. With many sites requiring a log-in it takes like aeons--when using firefox things move very quickly.

You can still use your @msn.com email account through Windows Live and hotmail and keep that @msn.com address.

The only thing one really got with Premium was the McAfee and a half-crippled web-root spyware scanner. AVG free is good and bit-defender is ok--I'm sure there are other low cost or practically free options.

Simply put MSN Premium is antiquated.

Winows Live and it suite>>mssgr, email etc are quite good---and, yes, outlook can be configured to work in tandem with windows live mail.

The only reason MS keeps the premium browser arond is to collect a portion of that 10$ monthly revenue from people that quite don't know better.

Do you need to have a premium account to use the MSN browser?

If not, there are a host of other products that you can use to get your email, both standalone clients as well as full featured suites (SeaMonkey is similar in that respect).

Since OutLook does not come with Windows, you'll have to purchase it separately - if you're not willing to go that route, you can also use the Windows Live Mail for mail, and it integrates with HoTMaiL and MSN nicely.

Thanks for the reply. We already have Outlook 2007 so it's not something I have to purchase. I was just wondering if Outlook 2007 work good with Windows 7. We get MSN premium free as part of our ISP, but I still use Outlook 2007. My wife really likes MSN but after talking to Qwest they told her that they have not provided MSN Premium for new subscribers for the last 9 months. I can see it's just time to move on and get rid of MSN, Thanks for the advice

Hey there djgriff, this is Brian with Qwest. I ran across your post here, and checked into your issue. I've been advised that Windows 7 should work just fine with MS Outlook. Appreciate all the comments. I'll be going to Outlook 2007 for our email. Brian, I've had issues with trying to get my wives MSN files to setup correctly in Outlook. After she cleans up her email I'll give Qwest a call again and hopefully get to a second level person so I can get this email working correctly. Actually, Qwest tech support has been very helpful, I have just had too many problems when I get transferred to MSN techs.

Thanks TalkTtoQwest I really appreciate the offer to contact you directly. We have had a minor setback (flooding in our Kitchen) so in a week or so that should be put back together, except for my wallet. Once things settle down here I'll send you an email and see if we can't figure out things. I've really appreciated how dedicated Qwest is at fixing issues. I've had Qwest call back after being on the phone with them, just to make sure all the problems were fixed and we were pleased with the service. Thanks again.

Rather than start a new thread, I thought I'd post here and see if I can get any answers, because I too like use MSN Explorere/MSN Premium.

Like the original poster, I use and like MSN Explorer/MSN Premium email interface. I like it. I've tried Hotmail, Gmail, Live Mail, all of them, and nothing works like MSN Premium. The beauty of it is having all of your emails on one page instead of having to click through page after page of emails to find something. Both Hotmail and Gmail only allow you to display 50 emails at a time. With Live Mail, when I downloaded it, all of my stored emails disappeared off the server, PFFFT, GONE! just like that.

I also like being able to inbed photos directly in my emails. I've only been able to do that in MSN Premium.

So, please do not suggest I use Windows Live Mail. I do not want to lose my stored emails again. I've already lost over a year of stored emails. I've lost receipts, passwords, you name it.

MSN Premium works great on my laptop that has XP.

However, I have a newer computer running VISTA and I can't get MSN Premium to sinc with the servers and can't access MSN Premium on that computer.

When I called tech support, after going through dozens of tech people, spending HOURS on line, being told to delete emails (even though I'm only using 10% of my available memory), finally I was told that MSN Premium DOES NOT WORK WELL WITH VISTA.

Crap. If I would have known that I would NEVER have bought a computer with VISTA.

So, that brings me to my questions:

1. Is MSN really going to discontinue MSN Premium and
2. Will MSN Premium work with Windows 7? and
3. Is there anywhere I can buy a computer with the programs I like pre-loaded and guaranteed to work? I really want to continue using MSN Premium.

1. I've heard that MSN premium will be discontinued at some point but my wife likes it so much better than other email programs that I've decided to install it when we install Windows 7 on her laptop this week.

3. I don't know of any place off hand that you could order all the software you want, but I'm sure if you purchase the software there are people around your area that would install everything for you.
