Games crashing Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit.

I recently upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7 Home Premium. I decided to do a full reformat on the computer and to start fresh again, after I installed Windows 7 i updated my drivers etc...

Now i have a huge problem... whenever i'm playing games like World of Warcraft or Minecraft, my computer screen will just freeze after a few minutes of gameplay. The longest time I had playing was about 10 minutes until the crash occured. I have no idea why this is happening, my computer was running just fine before i upgraded to Windows Vista.

I also heard this problem could be happening by a low power PSU, but my PSU is 750W.

I called Dell to see if I could get any help, but nothing got accomplished.

If the crashes have BSOD's please provide the DMP files




To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.



To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
OK your way out.
Reboot if changes have been made.

If they dont Have BSOD's please check event viewer

There are several ways to find what the problem is. The best is to go into event viewer (type eventvwr in search). Go to the windows log>application tab.

You want to look for critical errors (they have red in the left column ).

When you find them you want to look for critical errors that say app hang, app crash, or anything that relates to the problem.

When you find them please note the event ID, and the source codes and tell us what they are.

I am not getting a BSOD, the computer just freezes, like in the picture i posted, and I am forced to turn it off by holding down the power button. But if i leave the computer on, it will automatically restart after a minute or two after the crash occurred.


I went into event viewer and found some Error's. The event ID for both of them was 10, and the Source for both of them was WMI.

This is what they exactly say: Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.

My Monitor

Is there any possible chance that this crash could be happening because of my monitor? My monitor is a few years old so i'm just wondering. I can't seem to find a solution and I looked everywhere on the internet.

Probably not a monitor. Try running this


Run a system file check to verify and repair your system files.
To do this type cmd in search, then right click to run as administrator, then
SFC /SCANNOW

Found out what the problem was!

The problem was my graphics card, apparently my NVIDIA 9800GT 512MB wasn't compatible with Win7. My new, NVIDIA GTX 460 1024MB is compatible and works fine! The dell tech support said that 512MB was to low, 1024MB seems to be fine
