Hi guys,

I have a problem with a Samsung laptop, the model is NP530U3B.

A couple of years ago, after I had been experiencing some problems, a friend of mine re-installed Windows 7 Home Premium on this laptop, but instead of using the recovery partition on the hard drive and re installing the Windows OEM that came with the computer, he installed a different ISO and activated it with another product key. I don't know why. The recovery partition is therefore gone, and I don't know how to proceed from here.

I now want to re-install windows once again and I need and ISO but if I go to the Microsoft website and insert the two product keys that I have i get two error messages

1) with the original product key sticked to the laptop: the website tells me that this key is referred to and OEM copy and that I should contact Samsung. The problem is that Samsung won't answer.

2) The product key for for the Windows 7 that I am currently using: the website tells me that there is an error and that I should contact Microsoft. I don't know if my friend installed a cracked version of the OS at that time.

What should I do?
If I download any ISO of Windows 7 Home Premium will I be able to activate it with my Samsung OEM product key Will this cause any problem?

Alternatively, do I need a specific ISO for the Samsung laptop?

Thanks

Hi Dario,

If the lappy came with W7 home premium then you should have a COA sticker attached to it quoting

Samsung OEM W7 home premium X64
(check inside the battery compartment)

This will show a back-up key
DO NOT post it

Has it??

Hi Roy,

Yes it has a COA label on the battery, with a 25 characters product key on it, but this won't allow me to download the corresponding ISO from Microsoft website.

is this what you are referring to or did I get it wrong?

Are you sure that the recovery partition is gone? Unless your friend (or someone else) specifically removed the recovery partition, it will still be there, as long as you are still using the original hard drive which came with the computer.

Hi Dario,

You did it right:).

MS dropped supplying downloads for OEMs.

just a couple of things
please confirm its Home Premium
Language you want.

I'll drop a download link for you

note i find it quicker and easier to use a USB (min4GB), tool link
download W7 to >>DESKTOP
run this tool to ready the usb
Windows USB/DVD Download Tool - Microsoft Store

drag W7 to it
Change BIOS to boot from USB >>FIRST<<

Hi Roy,

fantastic, thanks! I am downloading it right now and I'll install it tonight. So I'll activate this with my product key right?

One more question, can I set a recovery partition during this process? (just in case I'll need to install again in the future and I don't want to use the USB.

Thanks

Dario

Hi Dario,

As its an OEM version it MAY automatically activate, (skip the input product key part to start with).
It depends on the changes your friend made, if any, to the Bios/AHCI fields.
If it does not activate, wait a couple days, then use the COA key.

As for a recovery partition sorry no, but there is a better alternative.
Most here use Macrium (free) to create system images on a regular basis.
Your back-up is upto date and actually takes less time to reset your comp if you have a problem.
(it wll auto-activate, drivers will be upto date and all your personnal data is there)
have a read here

Roy wrote "Change BIOS to boot from USB >>FIRST<<"
If you do it, during installation it will boot from the USB forever, unless you take out the USB device after fist boot.
I would set BIOS to boot from the HDD and to start installation launch boot menu (F?) and choose the USB device.

What you want to do:
- Clean installation (recommended) - It will delete all partitions so backup your data to an external disk. Clean Install Windows 7 - Windows 7 Help Forums
- Repair installation - You launch setup under windows. It will reinstall Win 7 keeping all data and programs. Repair Install - Windows 7 Help Forums

For the updates MS releases SP2 for Windows 7 - Windows 7 Help Forums
Check if the Security only updates are for all languages. I think they are. If not, you have to find the Italian version.
