Genuine status vacillates

Starting about a week ago my computer can't seem to decide if windows is genuine or not. At startup all is well, but maybe fifteen minutes later, maybe several hours later the "not genuine" message appears on screen; this may disappear after an hour or so, or may remain until windows is restarted. Going to "settings>system" shows windows is activated, the product ID, and the "genuine" icon; close settings and the "not genuine" message is gone.

Recreate the Licensing Store
Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator - accept the UAC prompt
Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each

net stop sppsvc
(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

After a couple of seconds Windows Activation dialog will appear.

Do I run that when it is showing "not genuine" or when it isn't? or does it matter?

FWIW everything is working well, just odd that that message pops up at least once a day, though usually it disappears within an hour without me doing anything.

My main concern is wondering what windows is doing in the background to cause this. Is it "phoning home" periodically? Is it really necessary to apparently check genuine status several times a day? And why would it be genuine at 10AM, not genuine at 1PM, genuine at 3PM, not genuine at 6PM?

Honestly, if Microsoft took half the time they waste on drivel like this and applied it to actually improving the base OS they might produce something users would like.

system validation is performed every time you boot, its a minor check and then once a month it performs a major check

you can run that command at any time

BTW, I found this in a thread on another site, from 2014; it is exactly what I've been doing, again and again and again, lol.

"Typically, when I see the "non Genuine" watermark at the bottom right of the screen, I just right click on "Computer" and hit properties and scroll down to the bottom where it shows the system as being activated, and the watermark disappears immediately.
According to the clients who experienced it in the past, they get "harrassed for a couple of months and then it dissappears."


What is a "major check"? This makes absolutely no sense to me; if windows is valid/licensed/activated/genuine now, why would MS think it would not be so 6 hours, 6 days, or 6 months from now.
