Get Rid of Shutdown on Windows 7 Home start menu

How can get Shutdown off of the start menu? I do not have the professional edition so I cannot use group policy editor (Thanks MicroS&&k!).

Why? I accidentally hit the shutdown button when I just want to log off or switch user. Of course, when I clisk Shutdown, it's too late...

do you want the button to say something else, having a different default action?

right-click the button >> properties >> power button action

You cant selectively remove that shutdown button, though you can remove it with a lot of other stuff. Take a look here.

Thanks, but why not just tell everyone how to edit the registry?

Why not just post the registry instructions? I get real nervous when I get some download that directly changes my registry.

I'll check it out though.

Your geek quotient is very low, just right click on that .reg file then select edit and you can view the contents full monty.

if you're nervous about clicking on random reg files, then associate them with notepad instead, so you can look before you merge.

once you're happy that they are safe, you can merge them by right-click >> 'open with...' >> registry editor
