Solved Get rid of the install Google chrome box

I have Google set to my homepage and every time I open up IE9 I see a box in the upper right hand corner asking if I want to install Google Chrome. I usually close this box but it always returns whenever I reopen Google.

This doesn't happen with Firefox since I installed adblock plus add-on. The question is there anyway to block this annoying box from showing up every time I open IE9?

Thanks.

Try setting your homepage to www.google.com/webhp?. It's the Google homepage, but you don't get the Chrome install popup. Previous versions of IE used to only have the popup once, and once you clicked the X it never popped up again, but it doesn't seem to work the same with IE9.

Thanks Everlong, I set your link as my homepage and it seems to be working. Nice to not have to see that box all the time. :)

Thanks again.

I was so happy to see this solution, even though I rarely use IE 9. Google is my home page, too, and the box was annoying. I changed my homepage to the link above; alas, it made no difference. The box was still there . . . :(

Strange it's not working for you. For some reason I had to do it twice before it seemed to stick, but now no more install chrome box. Once I followed the link I clicked yes I want to set this as my homepage and it seems to be fine.
If you only tried it once, perhaps give it another shot.

I tried it several times, clearing the cache, too, but no luck! I know it's a small thing, and I seldom use IE 9 anyhow, but it's enough of an irritant to make me change my homepage to Yahoo. Besides, I already have Google Chrome installed!
Thanks again.

Yeh, doesn't work for me either. 7 w/ IE9. I know it's minor, but I hate little annoying things like that. I have Chome installed, of course, and I use it, but I have to use IE for a lot of things due to my work. I prefer it to Chrome anyway, but I like Chrome for things like Spiceworks.

The good thing is, it's only acting like this on my laptop w/ 7. I'm running XP w/ IE8 at work and it behaves normally. Once I closed the box the first time, it never came back until I cleared my cookies and temp files. Now that I have Chrome installed on that box for Spiceworks, it never shows up.

I'm guessing Google never really cared to fix this for IE9? I'm assuming it doesn't affect v8..

Google Chrome won't go away anymore

I am thoroughly disgusted now by this ridiculous advertisement every time I use Google for my homepage. So much so that I went ahead and installed Chrome, hoping this would make it go away. It is a relatively new thing to me, and when it first started about two weeks ago, I could just click the red x in the corner of it to make it go away. Unfortunately, and inexcusably, now all of a sudden, the x is grey out and cannot be clicked. As I stated, I DID INSTALL GOOGLE CHROME ALREADY, and still this annoying add is cluttering up my home page whenever I open my browser. HELP PLEASE!!!!

I use IE9 all the time, and I only see the advertisement twice. The first time I load Google it shows, then I log in to my Google account, go back to the home page, and X it one more time. I never see it again.

Errrr... I actually fixed this on my workstation at the office, but I'll have to go back through my notes. I'll be up there tomorrow so I'll post whatever I came up with. It was pretty annoying for me as well.

Hell, I know what I did. I saved the search page on another computer, copied it to a flash drive, then saved it on the PC with the annoying box problem, then opened it by double clicking.

Select "Use Current Page" and apply. It's not exactly a fix, but it gets rid of the box.

I set IE9 to Compatibility View. The X is now active, so I was able to close the install google chrome message.

Get Rid of the "install Google Chrome" message

After trying all of the suggestions that I could understand concerning this popup I final hit on an idea:I went to the desktop icon for internet explorer, which in my case,is Google and changed the name to Home Page.Poof........Chrome message is gone and hasn't shown it's face again.Don't really understand but to get rid of that irritation I'll wait to hear from someone smarter than me to explain it.;)

Try:

get into TOOLS (Menu Bar),
then into INTERNET OPTIONS,
then into ADVANCED,
then scroll down to SECURITY,
look for the SECURITY subset "Enable DOM Storage"
check it,
click apply.

Hope it works.:geek:
