Getting message "couldn't be downloaded"...

Every time I download a file from my email or the web, I get a yellow popup saying, XXXXX.docx couldn't be downloaded.

I have tried to: disable the firewall, and that didn't help. Any suggestions???

GIIV37, it could be that your download folder is protected. Do you get a message at the bottom of your screen about whether to run, save or save as?

Are y ou logged on as an admin acct?

Sorry rich, was working on another issue. I'm still having this problem. Yes I am running as administrator. I even checked the downloads folder to see if the folder exists and it does.

Does the Downloads folder have a lock on it ?

Lets see something let's run DDS once again see what is running on the new installation

Click here DDS

:ar: Click on Download Now button

:ar: When the download is complete . Drag the DDS program from the Downloads folder to your Desktop

:ar: Right-click the DDS icon on the Desktop choose Run as administrator to run the tool.

:ar: Place a check next to attact.txt and click Start . When done, DDS will open two logs

i'm trying to download on the problem PC and got the same thing. dds.com couldn't be downloaded.

We could try to turn off the firewall for a few moments


Open Windows Firewall by clicking the rb: button . In the search programs and files box, type firewall, and then click Windows Firewall.

Click Turn Windows Firewall on or off. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Click Turn off Windows Firewall (not recommended) under each network location that you want to stop trying to protect, and then click OK.

Then try to download something

Does your User Account folder inside C:\Users have a lock icon ?

Try this

Right click on your User Account folder and choose Properties . Inside Properties window choose Security tab then click on the Edit button. Inside the Properties for {your user name } click the Add... button in the Select Users or Groups window type Authenticated Users in the text box under Enter the object names to select . Click on the OK button then click Ok once more . Close the properties window then try to download again .

This will remove the lock icon from your user name folder

I got to make the lock disappear but still getting the same message. I went back to check to see if the lock was there and it wasn't. Opened up the username folder, and all the folders have locks on them.

Downloads folder has a lock on it ?

If you right-click on Downloads folder choose Properties . In the properties window click in your user name does it have a check under Full Control

Yes I went to the security tab and clicked on my username. It does have full control.
