I have a magnavox hd tv monitor that i just hooked up to a new hp pavilion elite HPE. The external speakers work but the internal speakers on the monitor produce no sound. can't understand why the speakers on the monitor don't work. why do i have to use external speakers to get sound?

Welcome to 7 forum fishinman...:D
Make sure HDMI audio is enabled in the source digital device and the audio connection is plugged into the correct DTV audio out connector. If you are using a DVI-to-HDMI adapter you must connect separate audio cables from the device that is sending the audio and video signal into another device that is capable of playing audio (this may be the TV or Monitor also used to display video if the device has speakers and separate audio inputs).
If you are trying to send audio through HDMI from a PC, make sure any onboard-audio setting in the BIOS is set to Auto and make sure HDMI audio is selected as the main audio output in the operating system (for example, Windows Audio Properties in Control Panel).

I also want to know does the speakers work fine on HDTV monitor & HP Pavilion individually???

Lets know if this doesn't resolve the issue, so, we can check further...:geek:

Thanks for the advice, you obviously know what you're talking about but I am nearly computer illiterate. Is it possible to explain to me, giving a little more instruction, in the simplest terms possible? I hope this isn't an insult to you, I really do appreciate the info...it's my lack of computer knowledge that's the problem...more help please.

Did it come with a HDMI cable?
I've known some retailers that don't bother stocking HDMI cables with sound compatible monitors.
Instead they stock them with DVI cables.. not completely sure why, it's very inconvienient.

Difference between DVI and HDMI:
DVI: Only carries video signal.
HDMI: Carries both video and audio signals. (Higher quality video too)

HDMI looks like this:

DVI looks like this:

Make sure you have an HDMI output on your graphics card as well, before you buy/open the cable. If it does not, then what I recommend is a stereo mini plug to RCA adapter cable.
