Getting your Nikon Coolscan to work on W7 x64

First, sorry for getting back so late. Evidently I'm not getting notices until a day later on posts here.

Anyway, I'm not quite sure what you mean to be honest. If you're talking about downloading the drivers from Nikon's site just click "Click here to agree to license and start download" and the file will start downloading.

If that's not what you mean, than sorry, I'm not understanding your question. If it's something in the procedures, perhaps you should review them again, or point out by step number in question.

Let me know.

Hello!
Thanks for sharing that valuable information!
here is my experience of installing Nikon Scan 4.03 on Win 10 Pro x64.
My scanner is Coolscan 8000.
Assuming your pc has no previous installations of scanner drivers and scanning software.
1. Get yourself a PIC-Express FireWire 1394a card (VIA chipset) and install it.
2. Download and install Silverfast Demo (choose your scanner model at the time of download). Driver for your scanner is installed too and it works fine with Nikon Scan 4.03.
3. Connect your scanner to the FireWire card. Now you should see your scanner in the Device manager.
4. Download and install Nikon Scan 4.03 without drivers (uncheck all boxes while installing it)
Now you should be able to run Nikon Scan with your scanner.
At least it works for me.
But there is one issue with my setup. Nikon Scan hangs when I hit Ok to save changes in preferences. However all the changes are being stored and scanning works fine after reloading the software.

Ones again many thanks to author for the very helpful information on setting up Nikon Scan on Win 10.

Best,
Yury

Or readers could simply stick to the tutorial on page one and reference here for FireWire requirements.

I have carefully followed all the instructions (I have Nikon 8000 ED and Windows 7x64). The driver is installed and device manager sees it as Nikon Coolscan 8000 ED. However when open up Nikonscan program the following window pops up "Could not open Nikon scan 4.0 data source" What do I do wrong?

LS4000 on Windows 10

Hi - thank you SO much. I followed your instructions to the letter and for the first time in some years I've been able to use Nikon Scan with my LS 4000. I greatly prefer this to VueScan and am VERY pleased and grateful.
Thanks again for all your efforts - and your generosity!

Guys I apologize for not replying to this thread soon. Seems I'm not longer being notified of new posts. I'll need to look into that.

@ Alex Krasotkin

I'm not sure what you did wrong but the procedures as should work as written. Anyway please make sure you get all the files needed through the tutorial here as opposed elsewhere. Please note the file should look like this....

@ ctribble,

Thank you. Glad to hear they worked for you.

Coolscan 9000 in windows 10

Hey guys, i looked through the forum and I am having trouble getting my coolscan 9000 to work in windows. I followed the instructions, but when i get to the step to update the driver, i get an error, "The third party INF does not contain digital signature information". I have tried two of the four methods to disable it, both being permanent. Any thoughts?

Thanks
Jason

For clarity, what step would that be?

sygnus21 getting windows to allow the inf to install. I was able to get it to work by setting up temporary byass of the digital signature on bootup, now the drivers are working. Next step is to get the scanner to function normally. I think I ahve a bad power supply board.
Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the great help.
The link for the Nikon software has changed. It's now at https://www.nikonimgsupport.com/ni/NI_article?articleno=000002646&lang=en_US
I couldn't run this software until I removed the other Nikon scan software that was installed. Then everything worked fine.

Thanks for the info. Link updated. Nikon is constantly changing the software link as I just updated it in July. This was after updating it a few times prior to that.

BTW what "other Nikon scan software" are you referring to. As stated in the link it needs to be version 4.0.3.

I had installed Nikon Scan 3.1.3 when I first tried to connect up the scanner. The presence of that software wouldn't let 4.0.3 be installed. The error I got was vague, but I finally realized the issue and all went smoothly after that.

Thanks for the tutorial.

I traded a Canon G12 for a Nikon Super Coolscan 4000. The tutorial enabled me to get it and the Nikon film scanner software working with the most recent version of Windows 10.

Did work on Windows 10 v1903 with slight modification

Thank you so much for this great installation guide! It did work however the driver signature enforcement on my Windows 10 v1903 Enterprise system was only to be disabled this way:
° Open a command prompt or Power shell with admin rights
° Run these 2 commands (confirm by pressing 'Enter' after each):
bcdedit.exe -set loadoptions DISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
bcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING ON
° Close all Windows and log out of Windows
° At the login screen, press and hold the Shift key
° While holding it down click the on/off button and click 'Restart'
° Release the Shift key while Windows restarts.
° Now choose 'Troubleshoot' - 'Advanced Options' - 'Startup Settings' - 'Restart'
° At reboot Windows will present a menu. Use the arrow keys to select 'Disable driver signature enforcement' and press Enter

Once that worked and I had the driver installed, I had to put Windows back out of 'testing mode' (See the desktop wallpaper on the down right hand side) with the command:
bcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING OFF
and restart Windows

All the rest, perfect! Thanks again!:D
