Is it possible in Windows 7 to have a Gif preview?

Like in Windows XP
If you had a couple of gifs in a folder, you could highlight a gif and it would show you a preview beneath of it..

I know I can use third-party programs to preview the gif.

What I meant was, is it possible to have the preview like Windows XP had?

Like you have a folder with gifs, you highlight a gif, and it plays the gif in the folder.

Unfortunately Windows 7 Windows explorer does not show animated gifs. This is a known issue and there are many referebces to it on this Forum. Please do a search and you will find entries like this posted only yesterday:
"What I have found is that Windows 7 does not render a number of image formats as well as XP did. One instance is that it does not show animated gifs. There is a long thread on this subject here on this Forum.
The same is true for some of the PSP formats of which there are many."

How can it be that people couldn't understand the OP's request? He was specific in what he wanted.

I can just see how this feature got cut for Windows 7:

Sinofsky: "Ohh, this feature is only used by 18% of users! Get rid of it!"
Programmer: "but..."
Sinofsky: "shut up and do as I say, or I'll have you moved to Alaska tech support."

There's a software named "Sagethumbs" which fixes Microsoft's arbitrary removal of features with their so-called "upgrades" of windows. Its third party, but it enables viewing inside Windows Explorer, instead of having to start some other unwanted software.

(I know its a necro thread, but since I found something of a solution for it, I figured I'd post anyway)

They offered advice based on windows 7 capabilities. You too offered a third part alternative I find your opening line rude.

He said he wanted to preview gifs inside Windows Explorer. All suggestions were for software you have to open separately. SageThumbs shows previews inside Windows Explorer without having to start a separate program.

The difference becomes very important if you have a lot of files to go through. Its entirely too tedious to start a separate program for each one, it disturbs the work flow. Computers are supposed to eliminate manual repetition, waiting and needless mouse clicks.

There was no intent to be rude, but I feel its important to point out, because on so many forums, you find so many who write answers without having comprehended the aim of the question, and often, the answers are almost insulting, as if the person asking was inept.

Very good suggestion

I don't think they meant it that what, this isn't any other forum.

Thank you for responding, and for helping the op. It's just my opinion on your response. Bottom line the op has some options, that's what is important.

I use GifView.exe set as my default .gif file viewer in Windows Explorer

That fails the point of being able to preview inside windows explorer without having to start another program each time. In a production environment, that gets annoying fast...

I will install it on my old laptop that has windows 7 and see if it causes any problem...

Then we'll know if its a windows 7 issue or something with your installation, maybe some other software that's incompatible or who knows.
