Gigabyte Radeon HD 4650 AGP Problem

Hello,
I'm new to this forum i've been searching for problems on other forums too but this is way more into windows 7 so i'm going to try to get help here.

Alright, First i'm going to explain my problem.
I have an Gigabyte Radeon HD 4650 AGP 1G card.
i'm having alot of problems installing the driver correctly.
I've tried alot of things like, installing the normal driver from cd, installing the driver from gigabyte website, installing driver from AMD website, installing hotfix, installing gigabyte driver + hotfix , same with amd + cd driver.
And NOTHING made my driver work,
when i install the drivers witouth hotfix my screen gets stuck during the "starting windows logo" and when i only install the hotfix my computer just shuts down after the starting windows screen, and when i tried to install the driver + hotfix after it, i get a blue screen with the error 0x0000050 or something.

i've tried anything i could but i haven't found any fix to install the drivers normal.

Here are some specs of my Computer
Mobo : Asus A7V266
CPU : Athlon xp 3000+
Gfx Card : Gigabyte Radeon HD 4650 AGP 1G
Ram installed : 2G
I know its all old hardware so please don't reply like " get new pc" because i want this one to work.
if any of you need more information about my hardware / software then please let me know.

Try putting XP on it first to make sure you can get it working there before blaming 7. Sounds like the card is fried to me or just needs to be reseated.

i've got it installed correctly on windows xp " duel boot"
but it seems i can't get it working in windows 7 and i need it on windows 7 since my windows xp keeps getting Fps (frames per second) drops and freezes when i'm watching a movie or playing a game.

I doubt 7 will help that. Sounds more like an overloaded system bus (motherboard) or processor. Here's what to try. Clean install 7. You should start out with an unknown VGA device. Go into device manager, open that VGA device, copy all the hardware IDs from the details tab and paste them here. I'll point out a basic driver that is WHQL tested to work by Microsoft. Once you get that more basic driver working you can set a system restore point and start experimenting with upgrading a working driver instead of shooting in the dark with unknown software...

AGP video card drivers will not install without a working AGP driver. Considering how old the Via chipset is on that old socket A board, there will be little to no support in the native Windows 7 generic AGP driver. About the best you can hope for is that the last XP Via 4-in-1 chipset driver will install,

VIA Drivers Download - VIA Technologies, Inc.

You can also try the Hyperion set but I doubt it will install as it is for the newer Via chipsets. If you can get either of those to install then you can try and get the video card driver to install,

aperture needs to be set to 256 or 128 in bios.

You must have pin modded to get that 3000 running!

Did you let win 7 download all the updates for your motherboard itself at initial install.
Put an older card in to start, get it all running on vga - then work up

If you loaded stuff off original cd/older downloads you will screw the drivers up and get bad outcome as you have now!

As far as I know Via have been very good at updating drivers for Win7/older chipsets - email them (unlike Nvidia dumping NV3 motherboards etc)

I know you say card works on XP - is it in a 'universal' agp slot running at 4x not 8x?
Be very careful because the pins with voltage could be wrong for the newer/modern 8x card and if connecting possibly burn card out!

I have the same graphics card, and consequently the same problem.

Apparently there is a problem with the driver and the service pack 1 for W7, probably you have installed it.

Just uninstall the SP and download the last driver at gigabyte.

ATI Radeon HD4650 AGP Working with Windows 7

Not exactly the same conditions, but I managed to get my ATI Radeon HD 4650 AGP working with a Gigabyte mobo under Microsoft Windows 7 Pro 32-bit.

I had to set the AGP aperture to 8 in BIOS (computer set up). The driver I used was for the Gigabyte GV-R465D2-1GI which is a variant of the HD 4650.

Please try the Windows 7 driver from the Ggabyte site:

GIGABYTE - Graphics Card - ATI - PCI Express Solution - Radeon HD 4000 series - GV-R465D2-1GI

Also try the AMD Windows 7 driver for AGP HD4650. Make sure to select the AGP package, not the PCIe version:

I initially installed the AMD 11.5 AGP hotfix package (driver version 8.85). System would blue screen from the ati2mtag.sys driver. I decided to try the Gigabyte driver since I was using a Gigabyte motherboard. The Gigabyte driver worked, but occasionally the video would freak out with this scrambled pixelation pattern causing Win 7 to throw an exception then blue screen. I then experimented with AGP aperture finding that 4 was too low (driver wouldn't load) but 8 was best. The 256 setting was too high, causing crashes often. Thus I went the other way, reducing the aperture until a stable point was found. Please try it.

The Gigabyte driver is actually AMD driver version 8.66.

Here are my system specs:

- Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000-G rev4 motherboard.
- Intel Pentium 4 cpu 3.4 GHz.
- Windows 7 Pro, all updates applied.
- 4GB RAM installed.
- ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB RAM 2xDVI 1xS-Video.
- 500GB Western Digital SATA Caviar Green HDD.
- LG BH10LS30 Blu Ray RW SATA supermultiblue.

don't know if problem is solved, i did it like this :

Right click on My Computer
Choose Properties
Choose the Hardware(Tab)
Choose Device Manager(button)
Click the [+] next to System devices
Right click on CPU to AGP Controller
(If you can't find this, emailing me will not help. Contact the manufacturer of your PC,
Choose the Update Driver(button)

Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)
Choose Next(button)
Select "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install."
Choose Next(button)
Select PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge
Hit Next(button)
Hit Finish(button)
Reboot.

windows 7 ati radeon hd 4650 driver

OK guys! if you have an ATI Radeon HD 4650 and problems in installing the proper driver in Windows 7 then this is the solution!
I have a home made PC with ASUS A8V DELUXE motherboard, 1.5GB RAM and Radeon HD 4650 1GB 8x AGB display card. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate and no way of installing the proper ati driver. I tried all the ATI Catalyst drivers that were supposed to be the problem solvers! Nothing! They simply don't work! Never buy a AMD display card if your PC is not of the latest breed! Actually I didn't buy the card, a friend gave it to me! Couldn't refuse the offer!
So, here is the solution. Deinstall the Catalyst you might have installed (Control Panel->Uninstall Program->ATI Catalyst Install Manger->etc.
Reboot (640x480 display etc)
Download "11-1_agp-hotfix_vista_win7_32_dd_ccc" driver! It's the ONLY one that works with this card and Windows 7 (and the modo I mentioned, perhaps).
Install it and you are in business.
