Good audio for my new system

I am very new at audio, been looking around online and it seems like the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 are well regarded. The other option seems to be a Polk Audio PSW10 sub paired with their Monitor 30 II bookself speakers. Thoughts?

Why are those your only options? Seems to me you'd want to take advantage of your new setup... go big son, get a 5.1 setup.

The Klipsch HD Home Theater series are very nice speakers. I have the 500's. The sub, at only 8" isn't the greatest in the world, but for audio newbies like me it's more than enough.

While Polk Audio makes great stuff, not everything they make is great. I have a 5.1 Polk setup in the guest bedroom (with a Yamaha htr-5063) ... meh... it's ok, but nothing like the main room... so don't think just a name will give you quality.

There are some very good (and relatively inexpensive) 2.1 sound systems around. That is all I use on my PC, and I also use this PC for my recording studio system (although I have studio monitors that I use with that). Unless you are into surround sound and gaming a 2.1 system will work well.

Main point is what $$ do you want to spend.

Okay, I think my limit is $300. The thing about 5.1 ... I have somewhat of a space issue ... I think I just want to try 2 book shelf speakers and a sub to add a little bass, not to much, just a little bit extra.

Just to update everyone ... my Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers came via FedEX today ... totally awesome ... but I don't know much about sound. My previous speakers were a set of Logitech X-530. I'm still going to research a higher end setup for my HTPC, but these are more than adequate for a PC desktop set.
