hi

I have 2 Desktop PCs: one with WIN7 PRO and MSE and second one with WIN10 PRO -> Upgrade from WIN7.
Now, atfer upgrade to WIN10 MSE doesn't work and cannot install it.

It seems, Microsoft would like to say Goodbye MSE and recommends to use third-party antivirus instead.
At the moment I'm really unsure, if I should use MSE on my other PC with WIN7?

I think MS just changed the name - MSE and Defender look pretty much the same to me

As has been pointed out, Win 8 and Win 10 come with Windows Defender built-in and Defender is basically a rebadged MSE.

The info in the article you linked to is over a year old (no date I could find on the article) so it is not new news and MS has stated that they are still committed to their AV/AM products.

I strongly agree with one of the statement's in the article, "If you're a geek, you can probably get by with MSE" (or Defender). I use MSE and Defender on my machines because it's lightweight, not intrusive and it offers me all the protection I need. IMO, it's much more important to know what and 2what not to click on and what are safe activities to do on the web than to put all of your faith into some AV product.
