Oh, and another controversial one back in the BBS days was the pronunciation of "Sysop." At first I always said SIE-sop (with a long 'I'), but then more and more people suggested SISS-op. Makes sense, I suppose, because after all it was a system operator.

And yes, I usually do pronounce GUI as "Gooey."

Yeah, I can imagine system operators didn't like to be called Sigh Sop. Kind of makes them sound like an Ed Grimley type dude. Playing the triangle is tougher than it looks don't you know!
