Google Chrome OS

I guess it's the future. So i'm going to try it for sure. And if understood it well, and thats why i was confused by the Gos (read somewhere google works with them for the cloud bit), it's basically a cloud computing system.

For me i see the enormous advantages in the upcoming age of superfast internet. Your pc is just a blackbox which just works, and applications you can either rent per usagetime unit or per a form of monthly subscription fee.

Often it happened i needed an app for just to do something once or twice. Buying it is overkill, so you're forced to the darkside or not do what you need to do.

Yes, i look forward to this.

Take my wife
My computer ...... So is completely lost with all the icons, taskbars, options, multiple screens, security warnings, ways of screwing things up she mostly BSOD's the poor thing in under a minute.

And i made it simple, just 1 icon to click, it opens a VBOX session in her mother tongue with a totally bare Vista with just IE and Livemail.

I rented one of those tivo boxes for her. The box is really perfect for the computer challenged.
You cant do nothing but record a movie, watch a movie or a VOD. The screen is basic, simple. It does what it needs to do.

She got it going from day one.

So that's how i hope to see Chrome OS.

A simple box, that you can on to fly change from a simple internetbox to a hardcore software design box to a administrative system to a complex computer nerd box.

It will be based entirely on Linux, so this means typing commands, installing every driver for your hardware through commands, etc. It will be nothing like a Windows-like OS, just another Linux distribution. Plus, Google Chrome is 'calling home' like every 5 minutes or something, I wouldn't trust Google at all to be the main OS on my computer, they will probably register every single move you make and use it for their database. I'll pass on this Linux distribution.

it's well hidden:Good OS - gOS and Cloud operating systems

i've understood that this will be it's appearance, google gadgets + google bar

Just another *nix distro :).
Good OS - gOS and Cloud operating systems

Android will be better i think as that will be a real OS and not Cloud based ( Cloud = No interenet No OS.)

Just a note to anybody to avoid confusion -
The new Google OS, not to be confused with gOS. gOS not made by Google, and not the same thing. gOS just uses google apps, and the "g" is what is confusing, which stands for "good", not google.

Sounds like it's gonna blow all the other OSs out of the water in terms of performance. It will be cloud computing though.

That is the range of it. From a local OS, google blows away Windows and OS10, or chrome OS fails ....but it's up in the air.

This will be interesting to follow over time. I have grown up using computers in one way or another for over 33 years now and this cloud computer stuff just doesn't say secure to me. I have a netbook and use it basically like I would any laptop except now it has all my medical records/scans and pictures and I don't like the idea of using software over the net to look at my very personal records kinda makes it easier for people to get these files compared to when I look at my scans today I can do it without worry of it being accessed by a third party since I don't have to go online to show my doctor these files.

P.S. yes I carry all my medical records on a netbook it saves time and repeated tests don't have to be done as much. the cool part is the hospital gives me my records/scans/x-rays etc on CD free.

guess we need a Chromeforums.... now.

lol. They already have a blog dedicated to it!
ChromeOS-Blog
This site has downloads for the OS and tutorials for how to run it from a VMWare and off a USB Flash drive.
Another person builds (edits for fun, i guess) new versions of the OS, and has a sub-domain dedicated to it. He hasn't updated since April or so, so I don't know whats going on. lol
Here's the link: Builds by Hexxeh.
I actually ran it and the official Google OS off of an SD Card and a USB Drive. I also tried copying the Chrome OS partitions from a USB drive using Ubuntu, but after deleting Ubuntu partitions, GRUB2 for Ubuntu was deleted, so I can't boot Win7, making my HP Mini 110 useless...

well i didn't completely read the rest of the thread. if google wants web users an instant ON computer experience, they should revamped the BIOS. the BIOS, IMHO, still works in the same way it did eons ago! once they overhauled the BIOS, or whatever name it should be now, then we can talk about instant ON and google's goal for the webizen.

I really like Chrome, but don't care for most of Google's products. They all seem like fisher price toys, no joke. In fact, Google reminds me of a Taiwan manufacturer- cheap quality. If MS wants to really hold their ground in the browser war, they need to keep IE9 clean and simple. Firefox seems so bloated up where Chrome is more seamless. I really want to love IE9 and hoping MS does it right!
