Hi,

This is a bit weird, but I have had this problem twice now. Once during the Beta Win7 and now on my 7 HP. Google earth just decides to disappear from my program list in the start menu and searching it normally too sometimes is not that easy.

As a result, I now pin Google Earth by accessing it from my program files folder (which is still there).

Reinstalling and uninstalling does not work but the files are present in Program Files.

MS hates google so much to block out their products?

I wanted to download Google Earth, but do not think they officially support Windows 7 64 bit. If your ver. of Window 7 is 64 bit that may be part of the problem.

Google Earth disappearing faster than Atlantis?

I had no issues with it on the Windows 7 RC x64. Probably nothing a fresh install wouldn't fix.

me too

I too, am having probs with google earth. I download the 70 or so mb, but it does not show up on my program list. It shows up as a folder in my x86 program files, as a client file and a plugin file. It does not want to run at all.

I just upgraded with a legit Win7 from vista, which came on the new computer 3 months ago.

Google Earth (GE)worked fine under Win7 64 but I downloaded Bing Earth & it wiped out Google Earth.

Bing Eath is worthless!!

I tried to reinstall GE, no luck. Uninstalled Bing Earth, reinstalled GE, no luck.

What is going on?

BTW How to I get rid of the windows messinger that pops up every time I boot up & is constantly in my face :(

I have always been a fan of MS. Way back to MS Basic before Windows. (I am 81)

Issues like this is starting to change my attitude towards MS.

My first work desktop was a PDP 8E with high speed tape reader & punch. Teletype input, no monitor.
your GE is still there, only you have to find it in your Program files. What I do is I pin icon to taskbar so even though it is gone in my start menu, I can access it from my taskbar.

i have the same problem a few times and here is the solution I found. Uninstall Google Earth and reinstall it but remember to uncheck the automatic update Google Earth box and all will be fine. No more disappearing act.

I'm not running any cleaner programs, just AVG free, and the complimentary Norton expired. Could there be driver updates or anything else I'm not told when I install the 7 upgrade.

I tried to install Google earth on the vista that came with the machine, and it didn't work then either.

Well, GE is working now. I have it pinned, even though I don't use it often. Having an icon on the startbar settles the problem.

This is a know issue with Google Earth. They are working on it.

It hasnt been erased from your system though. The shortcuts have just disappeared.

To get your Google Earth back do this:
Open a my Computer window.
Go to your C:\ Drive
Go to Program Files(x86)
Go to Google
Go to Google Earth
Go to client
RIGHT CLICK googleearth.exe and choose "Send To" from the first drop down menu
This will open a second drop down menu, chose "desktop (create shortcut)" from that menu.

This will place the shortcut back on your desktop.

Hope this helps!

I also can't run Google Earth on 64-bit Windows 7. I've downloaded it multiple times, it says it's downloaded, and then it doesn't appear in the program list.

Google Earth Dissappearing fix

I also can't run Google Earth on 64-bit Windows 7. I've downloaded it multiple times, it says it's downloaded, and then it doesn't appear in the program list.

Google earth has disappeared twice from my computer win 7 64. I noticed that when this happened I have gone to programs and features in control panel and uninstalled Google Chrome and Google Earth. Then when I ran the Google Earth installer the icon popped back to the desktop and it was again installed. Something with Google Chrome? I am not sure but this fixed me.

Sean.

pin it to the taskbar, then if the icon and directory links dissapear, the icon on the taskbar will still work.
