I got my computer back a few weeks ago from HP and installed all the windows updates because it had the hdd replaced. For a while after it was unbearably slow, way worse than how I sent it in. I couldn't figure out for the life of me what it was, I monitored the task manager for programs using alot of memory but nothing was unusual.

I couldn't even watch one youtube video, before I could have 30 tabs open streaming 3 shows while torrenting and working on MS Word.

I finally called HP which proved to be no help because once they determined it wasn't the harddrive, they wouldn't help further. I decided to just run a full system recovery, after backing up my files. I did that, suspecting windows updates were causing the problem. Turns out I was right, now currently running 19 percent CPU as before it was always around 90 percent.

Basically now I have no windows updates installed, and don't know what to do now? Should I just not install them? I'm afraid I will be in a bad spot for security if I remain with it this way.

Any ideas would be great, thanks all.

Welcome to Seven forums cooldudeclan.
Scroll through those 108 updates and see is Service Pack 1 is one of them. Try installing onlt that, it should have you reboot. Then check for updates and see if there aren't quite a few less. Install just 2-3 at a time. Check your system between installs for issues.

Do you now have Windows 7 Service Pack 1 installed?

If not, that would be the one thing I would probably try to get--either on disc or from Windows Update.

And I'd make an image of my current system now that it is performing OK.

By making an image you mean through backup and restore correct?

That would work, although I personally would use another app such as Macrium Reflect Free Edition.

Well good news I just looked through the list again after having the whole update system off and it seems to be gone from the list so it must have installed and I'm not having any problems so thats a start. There's still 68 others to install and I have no idea whats clogging my system so badly.

Perfect thanks!

I've been looking for a new program to do that, it's so slow using the native program, sometimes takes like 30 hours :(

I honestly have no idea why.

I'll start a full backup to my external drive with an image creation and it runs FOREVER.

Sometimes my hard drive gets hot after working for so long so I just stop it in fear it's going to ruin it.

But yeah, it definitely takes it's time that's for sure.

Hmm, maybe you should have a look at the HDD then, it could be ready to fail. Here's links to some manufacturer-specific test tools.
7 Free Hard Drive Testing Software Tools
I've not tried it but am told Seagate Seatools will work for any HDD.
