Solved GPT muddle

hello folks - we are getting in a pickle here, would appreciate some help.

Husband has a UEFI Bios 64 bit PC running Windows Seven 32bit, and he bought a 64 bit copy of the OS so he could change and take advantage of more memory.

When he tried to install the OS it said it needed to have a GPT partition, not MBR.

He put a blank drive in and in Disk Management it asked if he wanted to initialise and he was given the choice of GPT or MBR, so he clicked on GPT. He was given one primary partition which he has shrunk and wants to make three others which are not primary - what would have been logical drives in an extended partition space in old FDisk days I suppose - but there does not seem to be an option for anything but Primary. Can you help please? I have looked at tutorials but it seems simpler to ask the question here.

There is no primary/logical (in extended partition ) in GPT. With a GPT structure one can have as many as 128 ( primary) partitions. Not enough?

So just create as many partiions as you would like.

well thank you jumanji - nice and clear about that. Unhappily, things have moved on. Husband left new empty drive in to put the 64 bit OS on, but now it tells him it can't install Windows on there because it is in GPT - which it is, because when he wanted to install it before it told him ir could not install Windows because it needed GPT and the disk layout was MBR. We are both very confused. Now we have to convert it back to MBR and try again to install Windows Seven - ahh, seems to be working now, at last.
