graphic card recommendation

My graphic card is the lowest score for my WEI and I'd like to make it a little higher. I have a 305w power supply so I'm not sure what card/s I could run before needing to upgrade my power supply.

Right now I have a Radeon X600 graphic card in my computer. I don't know much about it or any of the better cards out there.

I currently have a VGA and a DVI monitor. In the future (hopefully near) I would like to get a LCD TV and use HDMI. I don't need a VGA port as I have a supply of various connectors/adapters/cords to get VGA.

Any suggestions would be great

Thanks,
Andrew

I'm a car guy but I got "a great deal" on my system and I want to upgrade it to make it a cool lil machine that can rival the one with fancy cases. Eventually this will be my HTPC. I might keep it all this this case as I become more experienced to give it that sleeper look
If you'd fill in your system specs It will help with a suggestion. Thanks usercp 1.png

I recommend that you buy the very best that you can afford at this time ... The Best is worth saving for also. You will not be disappointed if you buy the BEST you can AFFORD.

To find out your motherboard download this CPUID and install it, look under the motherboard tab and it will give you the make and model.

Once we know your motherboard we can help you properly.

its a dell 0HH807. Thanks, yes I would like to get the best that I can afford/run with my current system. I don't mind having to upgrade a thing or two to be able to run a certain card (depending what they are lol).

A good budget card card is ATi Radeon 4350, its a solid performer. It wont run the latest games on high resolution but it will run them.

Oh and my current card is hotter than the sun after 30min of running so I think I should look for one with a built in fan as a another requirement.

I don't game but I will be watching tv and movies for hours on end

Radeon X600 Graphics Technology Ok now we know the X600 is a PCI-e card, the question now would be how much do you want to spend? You can get a 5770 for 174.99 from Newegg.com - XFX HD-577A-ZNFC Radeon HD 5770 (Juniper XT) 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards I like this card because of the DDR5, 1gb memory. DX11, 3 monitors 2 dvi 1 HDMI,Low power consumtion and only a 450w power supply is needed. The problem is you only have a 305w PSU so your really limited and under powered for much of an upgrade without doing the power supply as well. This card stil requires a 400w. And it's not the watts that are the problem it's the voltage on the 12v rail. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150396

No. the second card that might work with your system, if the voltage is enough is a single slot. But it's not much of an upgrade.

Know were talking about opinions. The Corsair is a great power supply but for the price I think it's a little pricey. This is almost what I have, and have run 2 9800 gt's in SLI and can run 2 GTX260 easily with it. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341023 Then you can get a better Grahic card like a 9800gt with CoD 4. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150316. this is a good card. If you like Nvidia but it's just a suggestion. Oh and the combo card is an AGP

hey I'm still a n00b when it comes this stuff so I have to ask what do it mean when they say that PSU is not modular? I need a PSU that will be the same size as my current one. Will it still work?

Thanks again for helping me thru this.

Your system is obsolete. The card won't be worth it with a Pentium D. Build a new pc system. I'd recommend Antec True Power 650w for an above average psu. Semi-modular means you can plug in extra cables, if the hardwired aren't enough. You also need proper airflow, but not in that case.

If all your doing is watching tv and movies you dont need to go all out on a new card, If space is a issue transfer what you have to a new case/psu combo you can get combos for cheap that provide good cooling like Newegg.com - Linkworld 32104-68WU+P07 Black/ Silver Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 500W Power Supply - Computer Cases, That takes care of 2 problems, I would suggest Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100225L Radeon HD 3870 512MB 256-bit GDDR4 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards for a good graphics card thats around $130 total, otherwise with your cpu and motherboard its really not worth forking out more money to upgrade

OEM psu's are rubbish, with weak ripple/noise ratios and no efficiency. Their UL ratings are probably off too.

Criticism? Who doesn't know OEM PSU's are rubbish? Don't you? Looked at the ripple ratings, if they are even there? That's advice, just wait till that psu goes.

You will be hard pressed to find a power supply that is compatible with your case. The PSU most likely is a proprietary form factor and made by Dell.

If your system is not up to snuff when watching HD content, then any low-end discrete card will do. Just make sure it uses the same wattage as your current X600 or you will probably overload the PSU.
