I tried to install a new graphics card and memory in my oldpc, but am suffering from BSOD and running out of ideas. Can anybody suggest what I might do next?
The computer is an AMD Athlon 9350e with W7. I put in the NVIDIA Gigabyte GTX 1050 on theadvice of the original suppliers, Novatech, to support a new 4k monitor.I also put in 2 x 4Gb DDR2 800 cards fromSiQuell, to replace the existing 2 x 2Gb cards from VData (it’s a 2 slotmotherboard).Neither the graphics cardnor the memory were bought from Novatech, because they won’t ship to Francewhere I live and anyway don’t sell DDR2 anymore, so I can’t ask them about theproblem.
The computer booted ok and showed that 8Gb was present. Then I attempted to load the graphics driverand it crashed with BSOD.I removed thememory and loaded the driver using the old memory, also loading the graphicsengine.The graphics card now worksfine, but it BSODs as soon as I put in the 8Gb memory cards.The new cards work fine in Safe Mode and, asfar as I can tell, Linux.
I have run a memory test on boot and it seems ok, but the pccrashes before I see the full report. Itried reinstalling the graphics card in Safe Mode with the new memory, but itcame up with an error (GvledService.exe Open Driver Handle Failure inMapMem_Phys_To_Linear).No irq clashesare apparent in Safe Mode and I can’t check them in Normal Mode because the pccrashes.The BIOS is on its defaultsettings and doesn’t seem to have an option for memory hole remapping.
So am I missing something obvious? My next step is to buy memory from adifferent supplier and try that, but it seems daft (and expensive) when it isclearly ok in everything except Normal Mode.Or maybe replace the motherboard and go to W10 with DDR4....
I've zipped up the dmp files but am struggling to upload them. So there's another problem (sigh), which I'll fix and then I'll post them in this thread.
