Just to keep things straight, you're only supposed to hear the airflow from the graphics card, right? I just got a new one and it kind of sounds like the fan is grinding. I'm about to RMA it. I got an EVGA GeForce GTX 550 Ti.

UR,
Likely it's fan is hitting it's shroud. You could try pulling it out and spinning the fan manually to see where it's hitting and see if you can push and make some clearance. Otherwise as it's a premium card then just RMA it.

Well, when I spin it manually I hear it as well but it's not hitting anything. I also downloaded the tool to turn the fan up and down. So I know for a fact it's the fan.

Well then it's an RMA candidate for sure, maybe they'll ship one out if you charge the price of another to a credit card and then ship the defective back in a few days. That way your still up most of the time.

I have my old graphics card still. It just sucks because I've been waiting for a while. So now I have to wait for my box to ship it back, wait for them to process it, and then ship me a new one.

Yeah it seems I've been there and continue to be there. But it's fun to tinker and improve on an already great rig. I just dropped a 8 core in mine and have it humming at 4.7 Ghz......yikes!

Most likely the bearing has shifted causing the displacement of the fan. I would recommend to get the RMA but if you can't then you can still fix it yourself. I had an 8370X2 (I think that was the card number) a few years back that sis the same thing. Since I was taking it all apart I also cleaned out all the dust. Anyways it was just the bearing.

I'm not a fan of overclocking. I'd just like to have what I want and run it at that. No need for overclocking and risk of ruining something.

The advise to RMA is the best idea.

I never said anything about overclocking, I am not a FAN (excuse the pun) of overclocking myself.
