Hi!

Since Vista background images are grouped in several categories. In Windows 7 this is also true for themes.

The groups items are shown in don't seem to be related to the physical location of the files. So I wonder how to change the groups items are shown in.

Could someone give me a hint?

Thanks,

Marc

You can put the themes/theme groups in any location, then click on the group and it will be installed. Think thats what you asked? :)

one of the key for the categories are pictures tag! Try righcliking the images in c:/windows/web/wallpaper

choose properties>details, look at the "Tags" details, you can fill in whatever categories and they will be grouped as same.

Hi Romulinx2,

no sorry - not exactly:

available backgrounds are grouped by several tags like "Textures", "Vistas", "Light Auras" etc.

Some searching led me to the conclusion that W7 is using the information stored in the metadata-field "Markierungen" (german) which should translate into something like "tag". If you open the folder directly from explorer (C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper) and select "group by" + "Markierungen", you'll get exactly the same list which is displayed in the wallpaper selector.

So the only remaining question is how to change the data in that field. "Properties" of the file shows it on the Details-Tab, but doesn't allow changes.

You will need to change the permissions for the file to change details. Anyway, I have just put all the wallpapers from world 7 into the C:Windows\Web\Wallpaper and having fun with all of them shuffled on my desktop.
