HAF 922 , question

I have the case HAF 922, it's a good case / airflow/ wm, etc...
But i wanna ask you something : if i modify it like here:HAF 922 improvved air flow | techPowerUp Case Modding Gallery
you think it's worth ? I have only 2 hdd , and soon 1 SSD.

Are you an overclocker? Are you running more than one graphics card?

If the answer to the two above questions is no, the removal of the hard disk cage would seem like overkill to me. Though I have never used the 922 I am using the 932 and just ordered a HAF X. Neither has any air flow problems. I did one mod. I enlarged the opening in the MoBo tray for the after market cpu cooler bracket. It was off 1 1/2" for the cpu cooler mounting bracket. (Board was an Asus P6X58D Premium). If you are going to use an after market cooler It would be worth your time to check the placement of that opening.

No, i have only 1 graphic card. I didn't do OC ( yet ) but maybe in the future, my CPU Intel7 920 @2.66 Ghz to 3.6 - 3.8 Ghz.

I use the 932 with an i7 920 OC'ed to 3.8GHz.
I modded the case by having all fans with air flow "in", except the top one, its air flow "out". The other thing I did was to swap the case sides. I put the case side fan, on the outside of case side, bottom mobo side with fan air flow in. This reduced cpu temps +/- 10C. It also decreased vid card temps. The side fan interfered with vid card fans air flow, whereas now it cools underside of cpu and does not impede vid card air flow. I have two of the cases, changed the same way. Simple but effective, IMO.

Sorry no.
But it would not show except for the side case fan. I just unscrewed it and rescrewed it to outside. Ran the fan power thru the clear plastic window. Swapped out the two sides. The vents are upside down now.
I also power all fans from psu not mobo headers, except for cpu fan of course. All others fans are where they were, with the directionality as I said before. All in, except top, out.

Completely unnecessary, and it doesn't look that good.

If you want HDD cooling, you could strap a fan (pulling IN air) to the inside of the HDD cage instead.

I've heard this argument/complaint before with regards to the HAF X, and I think it depends on the MB board. I have a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 and the clearence for the CPU bracket on that board is just fine...



Not that it makes a difference but the CPU Cooler is a Noctua NH-C12P SE14



Anyways the HAF X has very good airflow with it's 4 fans. The bottom fan and door fan suck air in while the top and rear push air out. Plus the case has all sorts of vents. This case is extremely cool.

Yeah it's the Placement of the CPU Socket on some boards. In my case an Asus P6X58D Premimun. It only took a few minutes to cut it out and clean up the mess. No big problem.

In my opinion, this is the best arrangement for air circulation. My CM Storm Scout has the same arrangement.

Probably the only thing that would improve it would be the new cases with the boards mounted vertically. That would allow the heat from the GPU to flow directly up and out without impinging on the CPU cooler.

The vid cards take air from inside the case and exhaust it out thru the vents by the monitor outputs.

The thing that works best is what keeps the box the coolest. Unobstucted airflow is the key. Having the large fan on case side, interfered with video card cooling. Airflow from one fan can and does interfere with airflow from other fans.
I have altered the case side fans airflow on two separate case designs. Both times resulted in lower vid card temps. The HAF 932 with its bottom tray cpu cutout offered a bonus. Putting a case fan on bottom tray side added further cooling to cpu. +/-10C

I also added little card board vents to channel airflow to specific components, specifically the cpu fans.

A little common sense goes along way.

Dude, if you like to be industrious, have at it. You learn nothing from nothing. WTF you got too lose. Make a plan, and execute it.

SSD's are known to get warm. I have 4 in the lower trays, case front fan right there on them.

They do have HDD coolers that you put the drive in and then install into the cd-rom bays. Fairly cheap.

Your not OC'ing so you just need to maintain good airflow watch the ambient temp of the room, your puter is in. My apt has steam heat, its warmer in winter than summer sometimes. Keep dust build up at a minimum from cpu heat sink and case fans.
I OC'ed my system to hell, cpu, ram and vid cards. All stock cooling in place. Stock INTEL cpu heat sink, no ram cooler, vid card fans at 90%. System idles in 40'sC and peaks below 70C. So you really do not have to do anything, but, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

The world is your cooling oyster. Do what you want but in the end it will either improve cooling, remain unchanged or make it worse. Most air flow improvements will net small temperature changes. My opinion is to use quality fans that push a lot of air quietly and then have a systematic case cleaning maintenance plan in place. Overall I like the mod you selected as it uses Noctura fan of which I'm one. lol

But the only problem is, how to fix the HDD's in the cage, above the HDD cage.

The slide out trays are for the HD's.
The bays at top are cd-rom bays.
What is there to cut. The slide tray bays are covered by the front side case fan. The top bays have knock outs in them that just twist out.
Put the cpu and its sink on mobo before install into case.
What are you talking about cutting for?

As mentioned earlier I would add a second fan to the stock HDD tray on the inside so you have two fans in classic push pull. In the end you want air flow over the hard drives as well !
