I keep getting BSODs when running 3x vmware virtual machines. The crashes are not immediate, usually a few hours later after I start the VMs. My PC was running the VMs with no crashes or issues for a week straight until I moved apartments.
My motherboard is a ASUS Maximus Impact IV and my CPU is an i7-4790K overclocked to 4.4 GHz. I have 16gb of RAM, of which only 6 was being used up by the VMs.
edit: I cleaned a lot of dust from the fans after reading that this is often a heat-related problem. Will run my stuff again tonight to see if it crashes again.
edit2: Still getting the BSOD. I also get it if I do a CPU stress test. It is definitely a CPU overheating issue so I rang the stress test while watching the temperature on open hardware monitor. The temperature went up very fast and then the computer bluescreened, but once it rebooted (into BIOS) the BIOS monitor showed a temp of 40 celsius down from ~90, which seems to fast to be possible. The rise in temperature the moment I start the stress test also seems impossibly fast. Could there be something wrong with the temperature monitor?
edit3: I reseated my heat sink (I have a corsair liquid cooling system) and it seemed like things were better. The thermal paste looks ok except that the part that is on the CPU doesn't cover the entire CPU(!). I ran a single intel burn 10 run test at normal stress level and it passed without getting too high CPU temp. I rebooted and ran another and this time it bluescreened. I decided to remove turbo boost (I am running an ASUS mobo) so I am doing 4GHz instead of 4.4. Ran another test and still crashed. I am going to shut it off for the night and see what happens tomorrow morning, but I am afraid I did permanent damage to the hardware by leaving the computer running (doing stuff with VMs) in a room with no ventilation and a heater on! Didn't mean to do that
