My friends half week old computer random black screens when booting.

Like the title says, my friend got a half week old computer and sometimes when booting he gets random black screens. (My another not so experienced friend assembled it because i was too busy.)

When that happens he has to force computer to shutdown.

Also when these random black screens occur the usb devices wont turn on.
One thing i noticed when he get black screens is things like dvd tray will open.(So it´s not most likely cpu related.)

He has to start machine couple of times to get system working proberly.
Most common scenario when this all happen is cold boot after night etc.

Another thing what concerns me is the fact he got three different bluescreens today when he was booting the system after school.

I´ve looked into it but i´m still kind of newb(been messing with computers couple of years) so i have no idea what the problem would be so this is where SF steps in. D:

I wasn´t there on the scene so i don´t know what are the exact BSODs he got but i asked him to give me all info zipped for SF-Diagnostic tool and i´ve attached it on this topic.

Last but not the least, i but his system specs below:

Windows 7 ultimate x64 build 7601

Mobo: Asus 99X AM3+ with UEFI BIOS(don´t remember exact model)
CPU: AMD PH II 960T 4x 3.0ghz
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6950 2gb XFX Dual fan edition
RAM: Corsair vengeance low profile 2x4gb White edition
PSU: Cooler master GX-lite 500W
He uses aftermarket cpu cooler but don´t remember what one, also his case is antec basic case but don´t remember that name either.

At this point i think this is enough info, and i want to thank you in advance! :)

Download an application called "bluescreenview". Use this to retrieve the bug codes that are dumped after the BSOD. Post the results back, or look the codes up yourself. I would take this one step at a time. The black screen and the blue screen are most likely related. When the black screen appears, does it hang, or is it intermittent?

Growing in due time.
Black screening on boot up is usually BIOS or graphics related, now there are a couple of BIOS fixes that cure instability with some AMD cpu's. I suggest updating to the latest for starters, lets see if it helps.

Hello Samekh922.

In addition to the information you have got,

► Your crash dump is not showing any finite probable cause. In such a situation, it is better to enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.

Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any.

► Moreover, uninstall Norton internet Security, install Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows, and run chkdsk /f/r, following the option two of the tutorial Disk Check.

Let us know the overall situation.

Remode all programs form startup, too.

  • Click the start button.
  • Type "msconfig" (without quotes) and click the resulting link, it will open the System configuration window.
  • Click on the "startup" tab.
  • Uncheck all> apply > OK
  • Accept the restart.

We have updated the bios into latest revision now. Does my last reply with bluescreen info tell anything? D:
We have to wait and see if bios update helped. Another thing the mobo complains sometimes is that Overclocking failed even thou my friend haven´t overclocked his system. i even loaded optimized defaults yesterday.
