Hard disk delay

Every time i try to open my D:/ or E:/ (read my specs),i get a green loading and 1-3 secs delay before opening.
Is that normal?
Is that a windows7 issue?
Is anything wrong with my new hard disks?

In power supply i have all my 3 hard disks c:,d:,e: powered from the same cable,is that ok?or is better to connect a seperate cable for each hard disk?
(My power supply have lots of sata/power cables)

Hello Panais,

Double check in your Power Plan Options to make sure that when you expand Hard disk, you have Turn off hard disk after set to Never. If the hard drive is being shut down after so many minutes, then this would cause that delay when you try to open it next as the drive spins back up.

I have noticed this more often on my secondary rig, which on has 2x1GB of RAM, but to a lesser degree on the primary with 4x1GB. I can't say for certain, but I suspect that it is a memory issue.

I don't know about the OP, but I know that I have all turn offs in the Power Plan Options on both of my machines set to never, so there is more to it.

If those drives are available on the network then it's perfectly normal. Nothing to worrie about, I get the same thing.

Yes you are right,was the Power Plan Option,it was set to off in 30min,i set it now to never and NO delay.

(My 750W power supply have lots of sata/power cables so no problem)

It is OK to power from the same cable but if you would feel more comfortable, then use separate power cables. The voltage and current used to power the hard drives come from one single source in the power supply. It is not as if each cable has its own source that it sinks current from. In other words when you hook up each power supply cable, each of the drives current source come from a common spicket so to speak.

Actually, it depends on the power supply in question. Some PSs have a single rail, thus a common pool of power, but some PSs (those with multiple 12v rails) are separate, and not necessarily equal in the power available. Therefore, it would depend on which rail that the cable in question is connected to. I have not checked the specs on your PS, but they are readily available, probably on the label of the drive, or online with ThermalTake.

In your case, it appears that 12v is on a common rail, thus should have sufficient power for all HDs, regardless of which cable is used:

Emmm...in simple words,is better for me to connect a seperate cable for each hard disk or leave it the way it is?

In your case, I don't see where it makes a difference, except that using a single cable would probably be easier for routing.
