Hi all,

I'll try to give as much info on this as I can, but as I'm kinda stumped I won't go into too much detail as it may not be relevant.

Problem I'm havning is my hardrive Drive
Drive #1 - Maxtor 6V200E0 ATA Device (189 GB)

Seems to be going like bonkers most of the time and is affecting the perfomance of opening applications, running games etc.

I have checked resource monitor and Just says the SVC host (restrcited) is doing stuff!

I have no ideas how to look further into this to attempt a resolution or whether it should be doing this or not. Just seems abnormal to me, don't remember the same hardrive going so mad on XP?

I have some programs start on boot, but nothing out of the ordinary, ATI, PCsuite, Bluetooth(for phone) and AVG. But that is it, with those running or not it doesn't seem to make a difference??

Any ideas??

If you need me to post more info please ask, I'll check back regularly.

Thanks!

I have evaluation 7100 win7 64bit.
running 4ghz ram
phenom 720BE

I have attempted Black Viper tweaks of services but no change, so back to default.

hi Sneaker741

Two simple questions

How old is the install?

How much idle time has the system had (NO user activity) ?

A new install of windows 7 will, as Vista did, (But not so insistently), index the drives and organise things for the efficient use, (superfetch).

dependent on the amount of data available to the system this may take a long time,

What I always try to do with a new install is to let the machine run (no sleep or hibernate ) at least overnight and preferably longer.

After the completion of these initial housekeeping tasks the disk trashing will reduce

Hi,

Thanks all for the ideas.

My install is about 3 months old now. Has had quite a lot of idle time, have left it on overnight a couple times now.

I have just ran a disk check, that took ages (excess of an hour) and I missed it finishing. I did notice it said '2 EA and 44 Reparse' on the verification thought.

I've come back to it after apx 2 hours and hard drive is quiet.

Will try ccatlet1984 sugestion and run the tunepro, see if that throws up any light. Will also try a couple reboots to see if the check disk has worked.

Chrs

I must say while running those test, since running the check disk, the drive has been 100% quieter! I think the check disk has done the trick!

Thanks all!
