Hard drive issues: Error code 0x80071AC3

Hi,

I have a 2TB hard drive which I'm trying to empty onto other devices. I moved a lot and only have about 506GB left. When I've tried to move the rest, it now says:

"Error 0x80071AC3:
The operation could not be completed because the volume is dirty. Please run chkdsk and try again"

Any help on how I do this please (Not really too great with computers as I've had a mac for years so please make any instructions very simple). It would be REALLY GREAT if I could get everything off it without losing anything. Help!

You could try to clear the drive using something like Macrium Reflect Free to create an image of the bad area (just as a backup to save yourself should the data not be fixable without professional help, (expensive but depends on the value to you of the data as to if this is viable).

It is probably a good idea to set this to image bit by bit as well as the normal method. (this is a bit of extra work but does mean that you will have a copy of your data on which to try something else

Once you have a backup you can then run chkdsk.exe
