I accidently changed the permission for my hard drive on Windows 7. I have C:\ and D:\ but after I altered the permisson of my D:\, now the access is denied.
In the drive Properties under the Security tab, I ticked all the Deny boxes of the permission settings.
I think the administrator was denied too. Now when I check the drive Properties, there is no Security tab. How can I change back the permission as all my documents are in it. Access are denied completely and I need help. Please!

Once you take ownership of the drive (which will only work if you have "owner/creator" NOT Denied".
You'll add the "Everyone" group to the permissions/security tab with FULL CONTROL...

Remove the "Deny" checks - they aren't needed for drive security

Hi

I have exactly the same problem. I was messing around trying to deny a user access to one specific HDD unfortunately I removed something and the harddrive is not accessible any longer.

Under the security tab of the drive it just says "you do not have permission to view or edit this object's permission settings."

Take owner did not work. only works on files.

do you have multiple user accounts enabled? Do you remember if you had explicitly 'denied' access to an "Admin" account?

If I remember correctly I went under the security tab edited users group and denied all there.. I left all other groups intact.
