A while ago I installed windows 7 onto a new hdd. I had an old IDE drive installed at the time as well, but with no OS on it, turns out the IDE is in control as the computer won't boot from a S-ATA drive; which is the only reason the old IDE is still in the case.

That's besides the issue though; once in a while things mess up, couldn't boot or access safe mode; inserted installation disc but no OS could be found to restore from. I've tried all other options I've found with startup repair, removing each hard drive individually and trying again etc. etc.

On one occasion, with only the old IDE drive installed, it did pop up with Windows 7 as an Operating system, but saying unknown location for the file path; so I couldn't then replug in the S-ATA drive and use this location to find the OS. This never happened with both drives connected or only the S-ATA drive.

Oh and if I do try and restore with only the IDE drive in; (not that it actually has the OS files on it to restore!) for your reference displays:
There was an unexpected error:
The Parameter is incorrect (0x80070057)
Not that I feel this is of much use anyway.

Any help or advice is as always humbly worshiped upon.
