Solved Has anyone been having date/time inaccuracy lately?

For two days my time has been changing. The system is set to automatically adjust the time using 'time.windows.com'. Is that the correct website to use? Thanks in advance.

What can I say? I've never found the windows time thingy worth two cents. I have it shut OFF on my PC.

If you set your system time off of a known good source, it should not change, and if it does you may need to change your CMOS battery on your motherboard.

maybe it's the battery as you say I'll see if I can get one from Bestbuy, I guess. Thanks for the reply.

The CMOS battery is the most likely cause. This battery is usually a 2032 3 volt Lithium button battery & they are readily available.

I use the "time.windows.com" & it has always kept my computer on time.

I took the battery out and checked the voltage and it was about 3.2, so seems okay. So maybe time.windows.com is wrong??

Have you checked to see if your location is set correctly?. The wrong location will change the clock setting as internet time is set by your location.

Well today after booting the time was correct. I'll have to watch it for a while. I did set the time location to a gov one, so maybe that helped. I also took the battery out and checked it with a volt meter. It was fine. I am hoping it was re-seating the battery that fixed my problem. I will keep you guys up to date for a day or so to see how things go and if all is okay I will mark the post solved.

Time sincronization in Windows is mostly broken. Even while the NTP server may be operating well, Windows (as far as I remember) only uses it only a week by default, so during that week you may be getting out of date gradually if you have a poor CMOS battery. If that happens again I would suggest looking for a better NTP client instead of the broken built-in one. That together with changing the battery would solve the problem in the long run.
