Has anyone successfully installed Wifi 6 (802.11ax) drivers for W7?

Hi all,

I have a new laptop (Lenovo ideapad 15ARE05, AMD 4800U, Toshibia NVMe SSD, Wi-fi 6 2x2 AX)
I successfully installed Windows 7 by slipstreaming drivers on the installation media following this thread by SIW2 (Update your Win 7 installation media)

Everything is working perfectly except for two things: the trackpad and the integrated wi-fi chip.

The trackpad I can do without as the connected mouse works. I can connect to the internet using a wi-fi dongle but I would prefer to use the integrated chip.

Has anyone managed to install drivers on a Windows 7 system for Wi-fi 6? Alternatively, I have windows 10 drivers but the computer says no when I try to install. Is there any way to force the install of drivers?

Regards,

B

Hello,

Depends on which chipset you are using to enable WiFi 6. If you are using Intel WiFI 6 AX200, then there is only support for Windows 10 environments. If you could find the chipset details, then I could look up compatibility for you.

I was afraid you would say that. This is all the information i have:

I think it is Intel. It is the AX variant listed in the spec sheet. I regret not choosing the older option now... I guess I shouldn't future proof the hardware if I'm going to install legacy operating systems

You can find the PNP device IDs.

msinfo32.exe >components>problem devices

For the trackpad, you could also check if there a bios setting that might say Touchpad > basic, or similar.

If it isn't possible to find a suitable driver using the pnp id, another possibility is to replace the internal wifi card. Plenty of videos for that kind of thing:

Yes, I bought the ac variant wifi card for about £11 yesterday and made sure the correct drivers were there first... I just hope it's not welded onto the motherboard.

I simply can't find the touchpad on the system! I think it's coming up as one of the "Unknown devices" in device manager. I couldn't identify it with msinfo32.exe either. Surely there is some kind of driver online. But then how does one assign a driver to a component that the computer doesn't know is there??

I suggest disabling it and get a standard USB optical scroll mouse if you don't already have one...

I agree. I always use a mouse. But there are those times when you are squeezed into a train station or somewhere and you just want to check something quickly. Getting the mouse out is just never convenient at those times.

I haven't given up yet, I just haven't had the time to look into it. I will not rest until I have a fully functional sparkling new, lightning fast Windows 7 laptop!;)

I have come across a major bump in the road with this laptop. Everything was going so well - got Windows 7 installed, got 95% of the drivers installed, got a compatible wifi chip to let me access the internet... But it has all come to an abrupt stop in the form of graphics drivers... :( AMD are actively preventing people from installing proper graphics drivers on the embedded graphics of the Ryzen 7 chip. So I think this is it. I think I have reached a point where I can no longer happily continue with Windows 7... It's been a good 10 years but all good things must come to an end.

What are the chances that compatible graphics drivers will surface for Windows 7 if AMD no longer support it?

Thanks SIW2 for the link. It gives me some hope that there will be a solution in the near future. Unfortunately I couldn't get any of the drivers linked in that thread to work.

I get this error when I try to install Adrenalin:

pe79eBR.png

And I get this error when I try to install the drivers directly through device manager. I tried all of the ones linked:

FYryaiP.png

I've never seen this line before "The driver selected for this device does not support this version of Windows". It's like AMD are proactively trying to prevent people installing drivers on older operating systems. Bad form.

Did you install the sha2 update as advised on that thread?

If that doesn't work, then you need to ask over there.

Yes, it was already installed. I posted my issue in that thread. Very frustrating as I'm so close to getting the perfect setup! :(

I am doing a build with an ITX MB to save my win 7 HDD's and retain my Auto cad use. The new board is lga1155 ddr3. It also has 2 NVME slots 2230 WiFi and the HDD on top. My software load is original win 7 pro Not a modified. I know if I want the nvme hardware to work as boot I will need to do a modified windows install.
My question is about the M.2 WiFi .Is there a card you can suggest that will work with win 7 without doing so.
This board will also give me a multi boot option by loading win 10 on the NVME If I did so the wifi card ? I would like to work on ether one.
I have read about the issue that wifi 6an 6e works only with win 10 or 11
So yes I could just solve by booting to 10 for internet access. I just would like to do it from ether.

I had to switch out the wifi card to resolve this. You can get really fast Wifi 5 cards at a relatively low cost. I think I spent about 11 or 12 euro for the new card.

I bought this from amazon. Amazon.com

It has driver issues Cheap Chinese manufacture with no web site and no support
The Board Name is Jingsha H61S The H61 boards do not have M.2

- - - Updated - - -

SIW2
it has the stacked M.2 slots the M.2 WiFi is on the bottom. The Bios does support UIEF boot when enabled. I havent tried it
I may have to so far I can not get the LAN port to work in Win 7
There are very few reviews on these boards Jingsha is making several this seems to be one of the latest. But as I said there are driver problems

I am currently trying to get the Lan Drivers It says its a 100M network card. and thats all

Why?

Thanks for the reply. It is interesting and odd. I dont know how they are getting hold of those h61 chipsets I guess they must be pulling them off old boards.

It doesnt look as if it has usb3 or sata 3 unless I missed it . It has a strange combination of features.

You asked Why . Well My first post says why I wanted to retain the use of Autocad 2000 that will run only in the XP environment. I tried to bring that to an NVme drive ,But could not load Xp into the modified Win 7 NVme install.
A modern system will have driver issues of one sort or another trying to use the Xp on any thing newer.
The Xp environment works on this new board. and as long as I stay with the SSD drive It will.
I can load an NVme drive and have a dual system . But that is just not necessary, since I have all that in the new case right under this new case. I just have to swap key boards and move a few things.

It was all just a challenge anyway to make something. I paid $ 120 bucks for a board and case, to setup and reuse my LGA 1155 i7 2nd gen and DDR 3 Ram

Update a note I stated that the board has a USB 3 header and it is printed USB3 on the board as well The Sata ports are printed on the MB as sata 3 and oddly sata 4
This make it uncertain what is misprinted, the online sales description or the MB.
- - - Updated - - -

Re reading your post I see mention of usb 3 and sata 3 It actually does. Though the literature does not say so. The board itself is labeled to have sata 3 and there is a USB3 connector at the rear edge next to the HDaudio .
I researched many boards none have all the newer things we want this has. It is to bad that there is no support.
If you asked why from Amazon well Newegg didnt have anything close and I was surprised when I found it on Amazon ,2 day delivery no less

- - - Updated - - -

For the board mentioned above. I have solved the Ethernet driver issue. It is a Realtech PCie FE Family control. Anyway that is what Device manager says. For me it is still a mystery because I dont know how windows loaded it from my resources. I had DL to intel driver files to a flash dr. and yesterday the first one did not resolve.Today I did not even unzip the new one. And windows had loaded the one at boot. (this is from an SSD HDD )

So problem partly solved the RJ47 cable port is working. Next will a NVme updated win7 install and work with every thing ? Including the main question in this thread will a M.2 WiFi 802.11 with BT work from the NVme install?

Depends what that means.

You could use this to update win7 installation media.
Update your Win 7 installation media

The gigabyte b75 board I linked earler supports xp. With the gigabyte bios update dated 2018 it also supports nvme boot with any cheap pcie>nvme adapter

The z77 also support xp and with a bios update can run boot nvme from the pcie slots and there are a lot more of them than on the b75.

for example:

1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x16 (PCIEX16)
1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x8 (PCIEX8)
1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x4 (PCIEX4)
3 x PCI Express x1 slots
1 x PCI slot

If you want xp and nvme and usb3, then a z77 board makes much more sense.

have solved the Ethernet driver issue. It is a Realtech PCie FE Family control.

Win7_7142_12222021 is the same driver that is already included in my updater.
