Solved Having a little trouble setting up surveillance box, Q-See QR404

I'm trying to help a friend setup his store camera so he can view his employees and see if they're slacking off when he's not around.

I have PORT (8888) and WEB PORT (88) forwarded in the router.

The only part I'm stuck at is what do I enter for DNS? Is it automatically generated when I setup the DDNS?

Lets say my DDNS host name is 0pTicaLsevenforums.dyndns.org

user name is '0pTicaL' and password is 'sevenforums' then hit 'APPLY' when I go back to the Network Setup screen should the DNS should be automatically generated?

I problem right now is is when I enter '0pTicaLsevenforums.dyndns.org' in the address bar I cannot access the surveillance machine from a laptop next door (10ft away).

Will having a ISP using dynamic or static IP be any help?

Because your browser is trying to use the default HTTP port of 80, you would need to enter "0pTicaLsevenforums.dyndns.org:88". Is your laptop on the same network as the surveillance? If so you could try typing its IP followed by :88 into your browser and see if that helps.

You're right, entering the IP followed by the port number worked. I was stuck at 0pTicaLsevenforums.dyndns.org for hours yesterday and now I figured out why. Thanks for the pointer.

You are welcome, using the IP to connect you will need to be on a machine on the same network. If you want to access it over the internet you wil need the DNS setting up. I assume you have been to dyndns.com to set it up at the server end? You may be able to find a free option like FreeDNS - Free DNS - Dynamic DNS - Static DNS subdomain and domain hosting

Actually I didn't have to, the recorder supports dyndns so I make up my own domain name, hit apply and I'm set.
