HD docking station won't work on new build win 7

Hi, I have a HDD docking station that I use as extra storage for all my files. On my old core 2 quad it runs perfect. I connect usb switch on and the drive conects via atapi bridge. However I just built a new rig with a Gigabyte x99 SLI board with usb3 (backward compatible) and i7 5820k cpu. When I try to connect via usb it pops up installing and goes through searching for appropriate drivers but then says failed unable to install. Anyone have an idea what the problem is?

Have you tried connecting it through all possible ports on the case?

I've seen odd behavior with docks. I have one that can connect by eSATA or by USB. The USB connection quit working entirely--regardless of which port I use on the case.

Do any of your other USB devices work through the same ports that fail with the dock?

Do you have your usb 3.0 drivers installed?
They should be on your motherboard CD.

A usb 3.0 can't be backward comparable if it isn't installed in the first place.

Update: I hadn't installed any motherboard drivers and then found in device manager over 60 base device exclamation marks. So I began installing drivers from the website. After installing intel rapid controller and usb 3 driver, my wireless mouse stopped working. Keyboard was fine, as was any usb stick. Then I draggef a file from a usb stick onto the desktop and in mid flow got the dreaded bsod with windows then just going to a black screen. I pressed reset and it hanged
at the bios. (Not good) turned off everything at the switch and tried again. This time booted into windows and decided to uninstall those drivers thst caused the problem. Mouse worked again so I rebooted. Windows then hanged at start freezing with the little logo. This happened twice so had to use system restore to get it working again. Now not sure what to do?

OK. Finally got it to work this once don't know if it will next time but fingers crossed. I had tried usb connections at the rear of my PC with only the same result. This time however, I turned on the docking station without connecting the USB cable, let the hdd spin up first, then connected the cable and it worked! Maybe the usb 3 doesn't like the delay of the hdd spinning up. I'll try it again next time. If it works then could be a possible fix for anyone else having the same issues with a HDD docking station.

The moral of your story is

When installing an OS
NO external devices should be attached SOP.

Just curious.... Do you recall....

When the docking station install failed were you getting an installation failure message "USB device not recognized"??? and not a "Driver not found" message?? A failure due to "device not recognized" is caused by a different scenario then install failure due to "driver not found".

I only ask because the situation you describe (connecting a powered USB device to a USB port BEFORE you actually turn the device on) can cause a "Device not recognized" failure. As a general rule, USB devices that have their own power supply, should be turned on before connecting to the computer to avoid that type of error.
