Hi there I have a very strange thing going on here.
I have two hard drives one 1TB (which is my main hdd which I have windows 7 on) and my 500GB hard drive where my stuff is on. Now here is the strange thing, Although I can enter my C drive (via Computer) I cannot see it in disk mangement or in device Manager. Which in turn does not allow my to upgrade to a diffrent higher version of windows7 .cause the only drive that is showing is my D drive. Help would be very much accepted. Is windows 7 preventing me from making any kind of changes to my C drive?

You might have a permission problem with the drive :

Right click on the drive in Computer - properties - security - advanced - owner - edit - then change owner to yourself.

I change owner and it still does not show up . I used a program from seagate to check my serial number for the unit and they both came up.

After googling around I found away to (at least) to see my main hard drive in device manager but it says Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)
To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer. But this is odd since I can access my c drive normally from "Computer"

Recommended resolution

This error occurs if a device that was previously connected to the computer is no longer connected. To resolve this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer.

No resolution is necessary. This error code is only used to indicate the disconnected status of the device and does not require you to resolve it. The error code resolves automatically when you connect the associated device to the computer

The following information is for the advanced user.

If Device Manager is started with the environment variable DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES set to 1 (which means show these devices), any previously attached (NONPRESENT) devices are displayed in the device list and assigned this error code.

Explanation of error codes generated by Device Manager in Windows XP Professional

I would check to see if your connections are correct and reconnect and also have you adequate power supply - PSU - I just looked at your system specs and a 750w should be OK - maybe the watercooling is using too much power - seems you would know, just a suggestion.

Logical drive shows under computer but not under storag

A variation on what Andyc7454 is experiencing. After I finished the installation of Office 2010 that created a "Q" logical drive to do the install. I am left with a "Q" drive that shows under my computer completely empty but does not show under Administrative tools/computer management/storage. Yet, the drive letter Q is unavailable under storage for reassignment.

When I double click the drive to open it under computer, I get the box saying "access denied". I tried to take over ownership but it won't let me. I tried to do a format, chkdsk but again it wont let me. It will open the property sheet but thats all I am allowed to do. One more thing, I can change the volume name and the volume location is unknown.

How do I get rid of this drive?

Reboot with the W7 DVD in the drive and start installation Of W7, and when you reach custom install - delete the partition your trying to install W7 ultimate to, and recreate it in the unallocated space, and then continue to install to the new partition. This should fix any problems its having with the drive if its available, if its unavailable you could try running the repair utility.

Did you try the rescan option in disk management :
Open Disk Management. Click Action and then click Rescan Disks. Right-click any disk marked Foreign, click Import Foreign Disks, and then follow the instructions on your screen.

Sorry but rescan didn't show it. My fear is if the "Q" drive persists then I won't be able to install the final release of Office 2010 when the trial version expires and if it continues to insist on creating a "Q" drive. As I mentioned earlier the letter "Q" does not show in the dropdown list of available letters in disk management, yet it doesn't show any "Q" drives. Unless I get rid of "Q" I am left with the following options:

1) Uninstall office 2010. Looking at many posts of uninstalling office 2010 I don't feel quite comfortable that it will work and may possibly corrupt my installation.

2) Go back to a previous restore point/backup prior to office 2010 and forget about office 2010 until Microsoft gets its act right. I don't trust the install/uninstall of office 2010 after what I had to endure. Thats one primary area Microsoft should focus on.

3) Clean reinstall of windows 7 and forget about office 2010 until Microsoft gets it acts right. I don't trust the install/uninstall of office 2010 after what I had to endure. Thats one primary area Microsoft should focus on.

4) Wait and hope for a quick fix via registry change from senior members of this forum. I exhausted all possible methods known to me. I don't like options 2 and 3 because all the work I have done since intalling windows 7 will be trashed. A total waste of time. I am also considering going back to XP. So far windows 7 has been a total disappointment.

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Firstly, dont worry about trashing your work its peace of mind you need - I would try (2) firstly than (3) if that doesn't work, lastly you could wait for more reply's it depends on your needs.

Thanks Whest. Your post had a good calming effect on me. I was about to freak out and do irreparable damage to my puter. The restore from a backup did work and I got rid of the drive "Q" and Office 2010. Good riddance. Things are back to normal.

Andy, have you scanned your system - dont tell me your running windows without ant-virus Program? You have to check your hardware there is something wrong with that 1TB drive if it isnt a Virus.

issue resolved

Ok I finaly resoved the issue with pain. I had to re partition my hard drive with the samsung disk manager. since windows 7 with clean install, partitioned my hard drive wrong and set the start cycle at 80 instead of 4 which it should have been. have re-installed XP again and now everything works fine again:sick: .As for anti-virus never needed it. Until I moved to greece, but never needed one spam filter or popup blocker is what i need the most.

Great you fixed it, I was having trouble with it - not enough to focus on. A word on the antivirus - you can pick up viruses on reputable sites eg. myspace and gaming sites - you should install antivirus, anti malware software, I thought exactly the same as you, but its a mythe, sooner or later they appear.
This is what I would recommend - microsofts latest free anti-virus malware combo - install, and that's it, all yours $0 :
