HDD spins down&up while gaming = freeze & BSOD

Hello,

I've had this problem for many months and it took a while to find out what was causing the freezes. Here's the problem:

When I start playing a 3D game (e.g Fallout 3, CoD MW2), after playing for 5-10 minutes, my HDD stops spinning and max. few seconds later it starts spinning again.
This causes my computer to freeze, usually for a few minutes.

Immediately when my computer continues working, HDD stops&starts spinning again causing another freeze, but this time a longer one. Usually after 2 or 3 freezes, I get BSOD (KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR).

This is what SpeedFan's S.M.A.R.T check tells about my HDD:

I've ran memtests and hdd tests many times, but they dont give any errors.

I hope you can help me solve this problem, thank you.

Several problems

1-sptd.sys
Please remove any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%.

They use a driver, found in your dmp,sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs.

Use this SPTD uninstaller DuplexSecure - Downloads

when you're done you can use this Freeware MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM(MagicDisc) in its place.

2-a9vuh9wz.SYS cant find a refernce to it anywhere and since you have ESET I am suspecting malware. Download malwarebytes and run it.


3-HD Controller error. This is blamed in many of these crashes. Please run chkdsk

A- CHKDSK /R /F:

Run CHKDSK /R /F from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt.

Do this for each hard drive on your system.

When it tells you it can't do it right now - and asks you if you'd like to do it at the next reboot - answer Y (for Yes) and press Enter.

Then reboot and let the test run.

It may take a while for it to run, but keep an occasional eye on it to see if it generates any errors.

See "CHKDSK LogFile" below in order to check the results of the test.


B- Elevated Command Prompt:

Go to Start and type in "cmd.exe" (without the quotes)

At the top of the Search Box, right click on Cmd.exe and select "Run as administrator"


C-CHKDSK LogFile:

Go to Start and type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter

Expand the Windows logs heading, then select the Application log file entry.

Double click on the Source column header.

Scroll down the list until you find the Chkdsk entry (wininit for Win7) (winlogon for XP).

Copy/paste the results into your next post.

Thank you for your reply,

I removed my Daemon Tools LITE and used SPTD Uninstaller, I also malwarebytes to remove malwares. Then I restarted my computer and tried if it already fixed the problem. I played Fallout 3 for 10 minutes and same problem appeared.

I will run chkdsk and post the logs tomorrow(today), since it's almost 2am and I need some sleep.

I ran chkdsk on C: and it showed no sign of any problems. Im starting to feel that the problem is not in my hard drive, because:

1. Problems occur ONLY when I play gpu&cpu intensive games.

2. I don't have any other problems except
hard drive spin up&down -> freeze -> bsod / shutdown

3. Tests show no errors

I suspect that PSU is the problem. When i play gpu&cpu intensive games, it may not give enough power to hard drive and causes it to stop spinning. Please tell me what you think.
