HDDRECOVERY missing error

Firstly apologies at my ignorance please.
I have a toshiba notebook running windows 7 64-bit.
I am unable to do backup or set restore point because I get a HDDRECOVERY missing error message. If I go into disk management it sees 3 partitions 2 small with no drive letter and the regular c drive. I can't put a letter to the small ones. I don't know how to put the image from print screen in my post sorry but can email if required.

Looks like,The files in Partition 3, have been deleted.

Try adding a drive letter to partition 3 only:

thanks but I tried that and when I right click it doesn't give the option to add drive letter. It comes up highlighted for the c drive but not the other two

I have a vague feeling that the partition table may be corrupted but I shall wait for the other experts here to analyse the issue and give their opinion.

what "type" is partition 0, 1 and 2?
which one is active? what's the label of partition 0, 1 and 2?

I think one small partition is called HDDRECOVERY and type 27 (ntfs hidden)
Another small one is "System reserved" and is your win7 boot partition, so it's active. What's the type?

partition 3 is type 17! is this normal.. don't think so

sel part 3
set id=07
exit

now reboot and try to assign a driveletter. If errors/not working. set id back to 17, maybe this is normal but I don't think so

ahhhhhh if you were here I would kiss you!! Thank you Theo, it worked. But do I need three partitions? can I delete the partition remaining without a letter?

We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD.

Did you make the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disks?

I personally would keep partition 3, but you can delete as you made the the Recovery disks.
IF you at sometime need to use the disks, partition 3 will be remade.

partition 1 is the boot partition normally called "system reserved". Why it's 1500MB I don't know ... normally is 100MB. Maybe Toshiba install made it type=27 but that's not the problem. Make it visible and tell us what's on and how much space is used/free. it's strange but doesn't give you any errors/problems.

When bootmgr has been loaded it loads windows from partition 2. Check in windows elevated command prompt
BCDEDIT or BCDEDIT /enum all
Is right partition listed at device and osdevice lines?

partition 3 isn't involved in bootprocess.

What is the exact problem and error message?
