HDMI Cable/Good video/No audio

I see on the forum that this has been a problem for a long time but I don't see where anyone has figured it out yet. If I missed something please enlighten me.

I built up a computer to use with my HDTV. A Gigabyte GA-E350N-USB3 MB loaded with W7x64. Audio and sound worked fine when it was being set up with a RGB cable and an audio lead from the green sound jack. When it was taken to the HDTV and connected with an HDMI cable there was no longer any audio at the HDTV...video was 'killer' but sound was dead as a doornail. Have spent hours fooling with it and hoping someone might have a solution while I rest my tired brain tonight!

It lists two audio drivers. 1) ATI High def audio and 2) Realtek High def audio. (Don't have any idea why it had two audio drivers-?) Both are operating properly. I suspected that maybe by having two audio drivers maybe there was a conflict so the Realtek was disabled as it showed no HDMI setting. The ATI is active and HDMI is selected presently, and no audio at the HDTV. The sound bar indicators in the computer ATI display indicates there is an audio signal there but the HDTV is not receiving it..

First, you don't have to disable the RealTek. The ATI High Def is the correct audio for HDMI. In most cases when you connect the HDMI cable to the video card, Windows will automatically change the "default audio playback device" to HDMI (from "Speakers"). In a few cases that doesn't happen automatically and in those cases you must manually change the default playback device to the HDMI.

Connect the HDMI cable then check the default audio playback device in the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound panel. If the HDMI is not set as the default device, make it the default device and then see if you have audio (this all assumes the TV's HDMI input is working correctly and the HDMI cable is good).

Thank you sir for the response. Appreciate the clarification on the RealTek High Def being OK to be running also.
The HDMI cable is good and the HDTV plays Video/Audio through a HDMI cable when fed through another source such as a ROKU player. So the bug has to be on the feed side of the HDMI cable (Computer). I checked what you said to do and in the attached clip it shows the HDMI sound is the default and the indicator shows there is audio present with the bar-meter. The signal is just not getting out from that point to the feed plug of the HDMI cable.

As I said this is a new computer motherboard and I am suspecting that the BIOS needs to be updated. Gigabyte shows an F2 update that just came out a couple days ago. I'm going to try that next.

I would first update the drivers for the video card, I would suspect that more than the BIOS. The HDMI function is controlled by the video card and not the BIOS.

Update the drivers from the AMD site. Global Provider of Innovative Graphics, Processors and Media Solutions | AMD

fireberd; This motherboard has built-in APU with a E-350 processor and an AMD Radeon HD 6310 graphics core; chipset is a Hudson-M1 FCH. AMD download site has the display VIDEO driver http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonaiw_vista64.aspx.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it is an audio problem and the video driver would not be the solution, eh (?)
The audio in the MB manual lists the audio as RealTek ALC892 codek (HD audio/2-4-5-7.1 channel/Support Dolby Home Theater/SPDOD-out support) Wouldn't that be the suspect driver?

Perhaps I should have mentioned that I did not load any of the Microsoft updates because I did not intend to use it for anything but watching videos on HDTV and wanted to keep everything to a minimum so as not to slow it down. Mistake?

The ATI HD Audio is generated internally in the video chip. It has nothing to do with Realtek, as Realtek is not used when you are generating/using HDMI audio.

Realtek is used with your regular PC speakers/headphones, etc but NOT for HDMI audio.

This is what AMD says about the audio in the 6310:



Integrated HD audio controller

• Output protected high bit rate 7.1 channel surround sound over HDMI® or DisplayPort with no additional cables required
• Supports AC-3, AAC, Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio™ formats

Thanks for the education, much appreciated. I have another Gigabyte desktop with AMDx3 processor. Switched the DVD players back and forth to confirm it was OK, then hooked the HDMI (first it was used on this one also) to the HDTV with identical results- Good video and No audio. Went over and over the BIOS set up to make sure there was no setting to enable HDMI and found nothing. Will work on the AMD video driver tomorrow.
