sorry for starting a new thread but i have searched through so many and still not found a fix for my issue

I was watching a movie and sound worked perfectly fell asleep woke up the next morning and no sound through my tv connected via gainward gtx550ti HDMI port it still shows in playback devices and when i test it still shows sound is playing but nothing comes out of the speakers. i have tried every possible thing i can think of to fix it system recovery, update drivers, uninstall and re-installing drivers, using both hdmi cable and tv with a different device and using speakers with built in sound card so im thinking its my graphics card that has a problem but any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated

The HDMI is generated by the video card. If the HDMI is set as the default audio playback device and there is still no audio, its most likey a problem in the video card.

One thing you haven't tried, reseating the video card. Its a long shot but give it a try. Power off the PC before reseating (unplugging and plugging back in).

hey fireberd

thanks for the reply i tried that when i did the re-install there was one thing i didn't mention it did happen before when i ran skyrim with new hd pack on highest settings and i pushed the card over its limits but after playing around for a few hrs it started working again. Anyway its not the end of the world been looking for an excuse to get a 5.1 sound system i just hope it doesn't mean my graphics card is going to fail on me in the very near future as its only 8 months old i guess i could take advantage of manufacturers warranty but probably take ages and bioshock arrived today.

Well for my two cents worth frog depending on what sort of quality you want I really like the Logitec Z506 not expensive and an alternative would be a sound card instead but your machine mate.

Personally I have Asus Xonar DG cards in my machines also not expensive and a fairly nice GUI to play with the effects I don't know what you are having the sound for nut for music and dome gaming I find it pretty good. I don't' know what fireberd thinks about that option?

My set up cost around $110 out here all up card and system :)
