society misfit- Shure some nice cans there! Yes the carbon fiber faceplate on the Furutech GTX-D Pure Copper Outlet is real and weighs several ounces! Best of all of my Audio equipment that runs off of ac power from the World's First Copper Outlet now sounds at least an order of magnitude better than it did before!

pparks1, +1 to that ! They (noise cancelling phones) have there place but IMHO they can never be a serious audiophile tool.

Hi there -- for serious Audiophile use I wouldn't bother with headphones at all -- some nice Studio Grade Mission speakers etc will do the job nicely -- remember this is for separate serious Music listening --not for your average compressed mp3 from an Ipod or output from a laptop sound card.

As for Noise Cancelling -- these are intended for use when travelling and if you DO travel a lot on planes / trains where there are crying babies or people yelling inane things on Mobile Phones then you will find they really ARE worth having.

One thing the OP omitted to mention was the SOURCE for the audio. It's no point in having the most perfect set of headphones on the planet if the original Source sound is horrible in the first place.

You make a valid point. Where background noise is high then the noise cancelling is nice. My point is a good pair of headphones will blow the same money in speakers right out of the picture. Now that being said can my K701's replace my reference systems.....not on your life !
