Hi peeps, I'm newbie here.... I'm facing a problem with an 8 Gigs Moser Beer Pen Drive.

I was copying some file to my pd & computer hung... So I removed the pd without safe ejecting. So next time I connected it to the PC, obviously it asked me to 'Scan For Errors' but I continued without scanning. Did my copying thing without any problem. Safely Ejected.
And the problems started here : Again when I connected pd to PC, it showed nothing inside!! It said this folder is empty. I tried unhiding and found that there was a Folder with name FOUND.0000. Inside of that folder, there were 10000 .chk files but I didn't find any of MY DATA in there!! So I tried some utilities to recover my data. Getdataback, etc.
It partially recovered my data. My rest data was backed up. So I successfully recovered my data.
Now I'm facing another problem here ... I CAN'T COPY A THING ON MY PD. So I tried to Format the PD as I had my data back. And voila : 'Windows was unable to complete the format'. So again I tried removing write protection, tried formatting from cmd, tried other PCs. Nothing works.

Now only thing I want to do is format the PD. I don't care about the data inside it. Please help me!!

P.S: At the time of formatting, right after it says it was unable to format, PD ejects and connects automatically.... :banghead:

Format with a third party app like Partition Wizard.
partitionwizard.com/download

Download, install, open. Right click your drive > Format

And from now on keep out from any windows formatting algorithms.. One of my USB drives is suffering because of it, at the moment.

And be kind to your drive next time, by safely removing :)

You could try going to Disk Management and deleting the partition on the thumb drive. Then create a new partition and see if you can then format it.

You could try going to Disk Management and deleting the partition on the thumb drive. Then create a new partition and see if you can then format it.

Could you elaborate more???

Click your start orb then right click "Computer" and select Manage. In the window that opens select "Disk Management" under Storage on the left. Then look and see if the thumb drive shows up. If it does you can then right click it for more options like format, etc.

In that case, alphanumeric's advice should work. But Windows' format utility caused my USB to corrupt, so if I were you, I wouldn't format using the Windows algorithms.

I suggest you use TestDisk. It automatically rewrites partition tables and a good MBR. TestDisk Download - CGSecurity

Just make sure when you get to step 4 that you select the correct disk number. If you have more than one hard drive installed your thumb drive could end up being disk 3 or disk 4. You don't want to run the clean all on the wrong drive.
