Help a noob out? (Internet Problems)

Ok so I'm pretty sure there are many threads/posts on this but I don't understand the language as all of them know a lot more about tech etc. So here's my problem, basically my laptop connects to the modem but not the Internet (no Internet access message) I know it isn't a problem with the modem as my iPod and Xbox connect. The laptop is insured but when we take it for repair they wipe it but the problem persists. Please Help?

Has this laptop been connected to the network before? Also are you connecting through wifi?

Do you have an internet connection setup in "Network and Sharing Center" ? This would apply to wired or wirless. Your internet service provider should have given you a guide on what you need to do.

Yes it has been connected before and it is through wifi
