HELP!! Cannot see all drives

I am having problems seeing all the drives I have hooked up to my laptop. I am using a USB Sata/IDE adapter that plugs into the USB. When I look in my disk management I see it listed as Disk 1, but I cannot get it to show up under my computer.. I checked to make sure that all folders and drives are not hidden.. On my XP machine I can hook this up with a hard drive attached and it sees as a USB Device.. I cannot figure this out on my Windows 7.. Please help

Go to control panel>admin tools>computer management>disk management>Right click Disk 1>Assign letter

If that doesnt help can you post a screenshot of your disc management.
