Hi all, this is my first post in Seven Forums.. richc 46 has given me good info on upgrading from a vista to win 7 OS, this was after a long battle with just trying to get Vista OS back..No success.... First off I am a babe in the woods with computers, so please bear with me.. The vista OS was to a point that it would not even boot to safe mode or anything else for that matter, I did get back into bios and get the boot option set back to CD/DVD (I hope i got it right) I powered up the computer and put the new Win 7 Home Premium 32bit disk in to the drive unit and rebooted the HP LOGO screen came up and then it went to black with the words hit any key to continue Err2Err3_ and that is as far as it went. I have read all the information about a clean install and all the pit falls but right now I don't have a clue what to do next. My system is a HP M 8200n pc Pavilion media center AMD Athlon 64x2 dual core, 3072 MB memory 500GB HD, Nvidia GeForse 6150se ...Any help would be appreciated.. Island boy.. PS I apologize for the lack in ability to write in more technical terms, I hope to become more concise in time..

Hello islandboytoo, welcome to Seven Forums!

Here's a good place to start

I would suggest, after you have copied out or made back-ups of the data you need to save to external media, use Step One of this tutorial at the link below to do a wipe (secure erase) to the entire Hard Disk Drive, running this then using the outline in Step Two #2 to create/format and mark Active a single 100GB partition using diskpart will get you the best possible space to clean install Windows 7 to.

SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

DISKPART : At PC Startup

Be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

Thank you for responding BF Kid, That is part of the problem I can't access anything, So back up is out. I have read over many of the items you have suggested, as I read some of these I wondered if any of these would work. I thank you for heading me in the right direction, I know all of this is easy for some, but I learned to turn a computer on about 2 yrs ago and I am still learning not to hit a key until I know what it does.. I will return with an update soon thanks for helping, Lord knows I need it.. Island boy..

Hi rich, I know the HP vista computer will handle Win 7 alright, but by the time I needed to consult the download adviser the hard drive and the registry was corrupted. At this time, I guess I will have to wipe the HHD by trying to use the command prompt and make sure the bios is set correctly, I was under the impression that when I booted from the Win 7 up grade disk that it would automatically reset the bios and wipe the HHD, but as always, so far I don't understand computer speak.. I need to get some sleep but I will keep working at it. I will secede in time.. Thanks rich.. I boy

The upgrade advisor can also find hardware problems with the computer; thats why I made the suggestion.

I didn't see your earlier thread to repair Vista, but did you try booting the Vista DVD or Repair CD to run Startup Repair repeatedly? I would try this first to see if indeed your disks will boot, and try to repair Vista. Windows Vista Recovery Disc Download — The NeoSmart Files

If you are prompted to Press any Key to Boot DVD and it won't then you likely have a bad DVD burn or bad ISO. Where did you get Win7? Try burning another DVD using ImgBurn at 4x speed with verify. http://download.cnet.com/ImgBurn/3000-2646_4-10847481.html
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstricks/ht/bootcddvd.htm

Is there a newer BIOS version update on your HP Support Downloads webpage for your model? If not try resetting the BIOS: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/tp/clearcmos.htm

If you still can't get the DVD to boot correctly, try writing the ISO to flash stick, then boot the flash stick under USB or HD's: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/31541-windows-7-usb-dvd-download-tool.html?filter[2]=General%20Tips

Try tapping the HP F12 or ESC key to access the BIOS Boot Menu key to trigger DVD or Flash drive.

Once you get the Win7 DVD booted, copy out your files using this method: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/93347-copy-paste-windows-recovery-console.html

If none of this works, then burn to CD free Partition Wizard bootable CD which will autostart, then from the Disk tab Wipe the HD with zeros. This will then force the Win7 DVD to autostart.

Well all I guess the machine just died, I can no longer shut the power off by pressing the on and off button.. The screen is stuck with light blue background, HP logo and at the right bottom is written, Entering setup.... <F10 = setup> <ESC= Boot Menu> and the far right bottom <F 11= System Recovery> V 5.20... I have tried many of the suggestions and still can't get past black screen with Err2Err3_ at the top... I was in the process of trying to make sure I had the drive boot priority in Bios set correctly when it froze.. I guess I am in the market for a new machine now as this was my wife's computer. I will use this one for total learning now.. I am sure that my lack of knowledge and ability played a total part in not being able to get this machine up and running again, but it was not for lacking input from all of you that that did your best at advising me on workarounds for the different problems at hand. Next I will unplug to shut down power and and keep on trying to learn and persevere in making this damn thing run... Again my thanks to all of you and especially richc 46 for all his help working on the vista side of the machine.. And to Bare Foot Kid for all the follow up advice... Sincerely Islandboytoo

Try this again.!!! I unplugged power and then power was back to normal. I booted with a windows+vista+32bit+repair+disk.iso The light blue screen with the HP logo and the info for setup boot menu etc. came on, then I got into Bios menu and checked boot order made sure it was set to cd.DVD first ect. and saved. then rebooted w/repair disk and got a BSOD . saying : The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant. Please contact your system vendor for updated BIOS tec information.. Stop: 0x000000A5 (0x00000011, 0x00000008.0xFFD0D010,0x0100000E) Then I rebooted with no cd in place, it goes to light blue screen with HP logo etc. then to black screen with MediaShield Rom BIOS 9.83 copyright (c) 2007 Nvidia corp. Detecting Arrays..._ Printed just like I have it at the left top of screen. Any Idea what all this means? the computer I am working on is not on line and I don't know how I would get the update into it anyway. If I could get into safe mode I might have a chance but right now safe mode is not working either.. Iboy..

The BIOS not fully compliant error is explained fully here: VISTA installing crash--BIOS not fully ACPI compliant

Remove all other devices but the target HD, follow the other steps given to see if they help.

Can you reimage or reinstall to Vista or XP to do the BIOS update?

The "Detecting Arrays" message normally means there is a RAID configuration between two or more HD's. If this is not the case, make sure your SATA controller in BIOS is set to IDE or AHCI mode, not RAID.

Thank you for more to try, I don't have any way to get back to Vista, and XP was never on the machine in question, and I don't have a full recovery disk to get back to vista, I have always used the " D" Partition as a go to for reprogramming the OS in Vista when it got out of control. a little history, the vista is my wife's computer, and when it got messed up we had a friend that knew some about computers just go back to the factory image and then we brought it up to date with the fixes and SP's one and two from windows. Well the last time was when it all went south and I didn't get into the problem until it was to late. richc 46 helped me on the Vista side until I decided to go to Windows 7, I got the Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade version new at best buy, and that is how I got to this point.. I would like to say I know something about computers but until about two years ago I didn't know how to turn one on, and over the last couple of yrs of my retirement I have messed up my XP many times but being an XP the fix was with in reach. So for the VISTA unit I decided to try and learn more about computers, and I will but it will be slow for me as there is nothing about a computer in my personal logic that adds up. But I am trying, and I thank all of you folks at Windows 7 Forums for helping me. I will read over the next items you have so kindly given me, and keep trying and learning.. Sincerely islandboytoo

Thank you theog I will read it, so far I have run out of things to do with my limited experience, just when I think something is going to work I run into a dead end, I think I am getting to a point where the registry and hard drive has corruption problems and I know the BIOS needs to be repaired (Up dated) and it is getting harder to boot into any repair area, but I will keep looking for a solution... Thanks again for you help.. Islandboy..

WOW!!! I wish I had seen and read that fix many weeks ago, from what I observed when I took the sides of the HP m8200n there was a significant amount of fine dust, and the fans had build up on all the fins, and the interesting thing was all the symptoms were the same as fellow on the HP support forum. I do believe I have some driver issues, but at this time I have played with it so much that I think I have it in a place that it can't recover from with out an overhaul. I am not really sure but I think I manged to wipe the HHD both C and D sectors and I am almost sure the CMOS needs re flashing, But the bottom line is that I will find some tutorials and read up on how to disassemble all of the parts and learn some more, but first I think I might try to see if there is a path to follow in putting everything back into default and try to get it to boot into safe mode for some uninstalls and testing. The last time I was able to get into memory testing there was no indication of problems, I went through many different tests and all of them came back PASS, but that was almost 10 days ago.. Thanks again for the help, Lord knows I need it.. Islandboy..

Hello again mate.

There's a little round silver battery on the motherboard, remove that battery for about 10 minutes and put it back, that automatically sets the CMOS back to default and in some in instances help to overcome issues.

It's worth a try and can't hurt anything.

Ok I pulled out the CMOS BAT. and reinstalled, I powered up and tried to get into BIOS but failed. I then rebooted and a black screen came up and said windows failed to start, insert windows installation disk and restart. File:\windows\system32\ntkrnlpa.exe Status: 0xc0000221 Info: windows failed to load because the kernel is missing or corrupt... Then I hit enter again and got: windows is loading files. File: \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe Status: oxcoooooo1 Info: the selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.. Then I hit enter again and got Error message.. File: \boot\bcd Status: oxcoooooe9 Info: An unexpected I/O error has occured I then powered off the machine.. Question, What would happen if I bought a full version of Windows 7 and tried to load it? Would that enter the right information into the system to cause a HDD clean install and load all the necessary info for the new OS to open as a new computer would? Or am I barking up the wrong tree at this time?? Thanks so much for your ongoing help...... Islandboy..
