I did system restore of my pc few times in order to undo an installation. I did not keep track of the contents of a folder in desktop all the while. After a couple of system restores I casually checked my folder in desktop and was horrified to all the folders and files deleted except the ones with exe files in them.

I undid the system restores but it still did not restore the files in the folder.

All the files under my documents are intact but files in the folder under desktop have all been deleted except for exe files.

There are procedures in the web to recover files lost due to system restore in windows xp but they do not apply for windows 7.pleasew help

Yes it is a personal folder which i always keep it on desktop for easy access. Its weird though that the rest of the files and folders under administrator username folder are intact except for folder under desktop.

I never use backup facility.

Tried recuva in normal mode for that folder and found no results. deep mode requires 4 hours  may be i'll try later.

i've heard in windows xp upon system restore it moves certain files & folders under new userprofile (with number appended) folder which can be made accessible by using safe mode. any suggestions for windows 7 ?

By any chance, are you able to right click on the folder and select "restore previous versions"?

tried diskdigger in deep mode but didnt get the files i'm looking for. i tried getdataback then and then it showed everything i'm looking for but when i tried to recover the pdf's and docs they are corrupt and not recognized by their respective apps.

thnx for all the help. i dont want to waste time anymore. the important files which i've lost, i can manage without them.i never faced any issue with sytem restore in xp dont know why windows 7 is behaving this way. ive learnt my lesson i.e not to trust system restore.

I'm mystified how there is a system image folder on E: drive that the user doesnt know about. Just back it up to an external drive (explore its contents in leisure), then delete from the hdd.

It might be a good idea to keep your folder in a different location and have a shortcut to the folder on the desk top
