Help Group Policy Windows 7 Pro & Home

Hi All,

I am after a bit of advice. I am editing a group policy on a windows 7 pro edition, and I am exporting it using the GPOPack tool and then I am importing the user registry.pol onto a windows home edition, using localpol.exe and it says that it is running successfully, but none of the policies are actually being applied.

We downloaded a gpedit.msc tool for the home edition and the values are showing as set, but they are not being applied.

The policy I am trying to alter, is the Control Panel policy to prevent users from accessing the Control Panel.

Any ideas?

Hi, Thanks for your reply. Is there any list or way to find out which Group Policies don't stick on Win 7 HP.

I have tried that registry change you suggested but it had no affect.

Disable Contol Panel

Confirmed - it doesn't work. Tried it myself.

Requires a reboot. I'll test and let you know.

That doesn't work. What works for me is to apply the same settings but on a per user basis under

HKEY_USERS\USER Security Identifier\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

It's just pure speculation at this at if point but it's possible that if you've enabled God Mode then the settings don't stick.

Finally a solution that works

Okay so this one actually works for me.

First undo any changes that you've made.

Then try:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Click on the key ‘explorer’, then in the right pane just right-click on the area and choose New DWORD Value and name it NoControlPanel

When the DWORD has been added, double-click on it and a little window will appear, now change the value data from zero(0) to one(1) and then click ‘Ok’, you can close the Regedit window.

In order for the setting to take effect you either need to restart explorer from Task Manager or reboot.
