Help Installing USB 802.11n WLAN card

Hello all,

I have tried to install a USB addition to my newly purchased computer. It is an OEM computer manufactured in China with some interesting specs (attached). I have 2 problems, with which I would like some assistance:

1. Unable to connect through USB 802.11n WLAN peripheral

The main problem was finding the drivers for the USB WLAN accessory (in the external antenna). I detected it as a MediaTek 802.11n WLAN USB device. I downloaded and installed the driver and it successfully detects the WiFi LAN.

However, when I attempt set up the TCP/IPv4 properties I get a previously unseen message:

Basically, it says I have Multiple Default Gateways. This is odd, since there is only one gateway on my network at 10.0.0.138.

The system fails to connect properly to the network, but does recognise the SSID.

2. Cannot find driver for USB device

Further, there is an unknown device in Device Manager. I found it to have a Hardware ID of 'IUSB3\ROOT_HUB30&VID_8086&PID_9C31', so it appears to be an Intel USB 3 root hub. There is already a Generic root hub configured to this machine. I was wondering if this may bear upon the above problem. How could I resolve this without removing access to the computer. (It only has a USB keyboard).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. Does the Device have any software with it on a lot of wireless cards you have two options use Windows to connect or a makers utility the makers will disable Windows wireless . Open a cmd prompt type
Ipconfig /all

Please use the image upload facility withen this forum rather than hosting an image from your WordPress site. Doing so has me think you're trying to increase your SEO. Also, the image is very hard to read.

On the face of it, it appears the driver for the WiFi card is incomplete and needs some kind of USB root hub driver for communications to pass to the WiFi card.

Since generic Chinese made devices are hit and miss with drivers, I'd just buy a name brand $15 El cheapo USB WiFi card and call it a day. If Oz has an Amazon that'd be one option. Or eBay or another tech retailer in your neck of the woods. Bottom line, I wouldn't put a bunch of effort into getting a generic USB WiFi card to work.

Solved - sort of... Help Installing USB 802.11n WLAN card

After a lot of diving down foxholes, i.e., talking to the computer manufacturer who referred me to a driver update utility (yes!), I decided that the best plan of attack was retreat.

I took F22 Simpilot's advice and investigated a USB device. (My computer will not take a 'card' as it is not motherboard 'expandable'). I settled on the TPlink WN822N wireless USB adapter. It installed readily after having to download the driver using my ethernet connection (no DVD, no WiFi). Have yet to test it out.
