Hi!

For testing purposes, I made some changes/added some rules in the local group policy editor (Software Restriction Policies / Application Control Policies) which I have withdrawn afterwards.

However, the next time I started my workstation, the following message appeared:

"Execution of the Windows Script Host failed. (This program is blocked by group policy. For more information, contact your system administrator)."

Unfortunately, the system admin (IBM) could not help and suggested a reinstall of my workstation.

I would really appreciate any help!!!

System Restore is made to fix problems with system files that were changed so it might be worth a try.

Of course having a system image handy for situations like this would be nice also.

Hi chev65!

Thank you for your response.

System restore is turned-off because I made bad experiences with it in the past.

Are there any other ideas?

That's what everyone says. ;)

Suggest you leave it on next time.

You can restore the default GPO setting using a VBS file, a BAT file or using the command prompt.

This link shows you all three options and one of them should work for you. :)

Go into group policy and remove the restrictions.

No success?

This is exactly how you would fix this type of problem if indeed it has anything to do with the GPO settings. There would be no reason to undo any GPO settings as the defaults would be restored with any of those three methods.

If this didn't work then you have other problems with your machine that you may not be aware of.

The script host error message is another problem apparently, it may help to register the components per the link.

Hi!
I could not execute two of those commands. The following errors have been thrown:

%systemroot%\system32\regsvr32 %systemroot%\system32\wshext.dll
The module "C:\Windows\system32\wshext.dll" was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80040201.

What does running the sfc/scannow command tell you?

Hi!

It says:
"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired
them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log"

However, running the two commands mentioned before is still not possible...

NO clue here Rick, you might want to try the other options for restoring the group policy settings.

If that doesn't work, suggest you reinstall Op system or use a back up image to restore your system.

I can't provide a link ATM but before a reinstall try a repair install. A quick search of forum can get you the topic. Be sure to read the cautions first.
