HELP my hard drive is not working

Sorry if I am in the wrong form I need help my laptop will not read my hard drive when I plug it in I checked the propertys and it say error code

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

I might add my hard drive works when plugged into my media player just not my laptop

Is this fixable and if so how I am not a computer wiz so looking for a little help here

Hello and welcome Sinner mate are you running 7 or 8 as you have 8 listed as the OS? If you are running 8 then try the 8 forum - same crew different system

But just as by the by the drive is it an external drive you are speaking of??

hi yeah I have 8 sorry I will jump over there and yeah external hard drive and its just started not working

Ok mate now if it is a USB connection the drivers for those ports that would be my first port of call and update them. Now I haven't been on the 8 forum that much because I just didn't like it - or 10 for that matter but am guessing what I have said is probably the issue.
