Hi, Having a similar problem with a Medion laptop (Intel core duo 1.8GH and 3G ram) annd W7.
The Realtek sound card is showing in Device Manager and shown working correctly and indeed it plays CD or sound from streaming. However in Sound Control Panel the only device for playback is the speakers; and for recording only the microphone is listed. No mention of Realtek. Plugging a USB sound card in gives the same result; in Device mgr but only speakers and mike in Sound. This means I cannot do VOIP or record from streaming directly. I have to link the speaker output by 3.5 mm jacks to Mic input to record streaming. No good for VOIP. VOIP programs state no sound card found. Any ideas please?

Hi,

I have had the same problem now for eight months. I am using a Medion laptop and a Realtek sound card. I can play audio from CD/streaming ewtc, but the only listed method of recording is by Mic or Line input. Been and got the latest driver (Dec2009 release) but it is not showing in Control Panel/Sound. I have worked around the system by using a single to double 3.5 adapter and plugging a short lead from one of the outputs back into the line input (with the external speakers in the other output) and this allows me to record streaming sound.

I do wonder if the Realtek sound card is a proprierty model built for Medion; but I have a USB C-Media sound card and the drivers load and sound can be played back through it but recording is limited again to Mic/Line input.

Is there some sort of security setting (or registry setting) in W7 which needs changing to allow a sound card to be used for recording? I am now trying to investigate this option. Have not got very far as yet.

Device manager listsd both sound cards as 'Working properly'

no sound detected

Try this

Control Panel... Sound... Recording Tab...
Right click on any entry, Show Disabled Devices, make sure Stereo Mix is enabled. Should work for you.

Hi,
had already ticked the Stereo Mix but again only speakkers and Mic available for output or recording.
Pity I can't get VOIP working as I have a use for it. Using an old W2000 which works.
Cheers

I too had this problem. My Win7 x64 installation wasn't seeing my SB X-Fi XtremeGamer card, I noticed there was a module file at the creative support site to aid with card detection... but just installing the old drivers seemed to do the trick. Until the sound quality turned out to be uber bad and the device would just quit working.
